THQ has made a startling announcement in an investor report: Warhammer 40,000: Dark Millenium will no longer be an MMO, but a full, retail release single player game, with online multiplayer.

What. [http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/FlatWhat]

Seriously, what the hell? That sucks, but I do see the reasoning behind it. An MMO is a big gamble, and if THQ is falling apart at the seams, then it is probably better for them to avoid going into competition with the MMO juggernauts.

You know what...I'm okay with this. More than okay, actually. Now I'm really looking forward to it (shame about the laid off employees, though).

The inner WH40k fanboy in me cried bloody murder when I heard about DMO's "Order vs. Disorder" two-faction system. Hopefully going the single player route will result in a more accurate depiction of the universe, where all the factions are out to kill each other.

Hopefully Relic will get in on the action like they said they would. Their experience making quality Warhammer 40k games would really come in handy.

Thank Christ. I love 40k, and I facepalmed when I heard they were walking it straight into the MMO meatgrinder to be slaughtered.

I'm in agreement here as well. MMOs are expensive so this makes sense for THQ especially with Vigil's work being single player so far. I'm still going to get this no matter what since I really like THQ, Relic and Vigil and don't want them to go out of business.

I was excited by the possibilities a 40,000K MMO presented.

I was aghast at how bad the alpha footage looked.

I'm thus utterly ambivalent about what happens to the game at this juncture, but the fact they're doing a massive about-face mid-development sort of confirms my suspicions that it's a troubled project at best.

Pity. Another Warhammer flop and the IP is going to become viewed as poisonous by developers, at least so far as MMOs go.

Well the problem is THQ's financial issues right now not the game. If THQ was still doing fine odds are they would have kept it as a MMO but right now they cannot afford to lose that much money. Also I saw those early videos and I honestly don't believe that was it. Everything looked like something they were just pasting on top of the actual footage. Still now that it's going to be a normal game I am intrigued on how it will turn out. Also hoping this means we can get a Space Marine 2 to fix all the problems the original had.
