Sorry about posting this here guys and girls, I don't know where else to turn and fellow escapists are usually awesome when it comes to fixing PC games so I came here for help.
I bought Star wars: tie fighter on eBay, got it for £5 too so I was pretty thrilled. Bought a USB floppy disk drive as well because I got the original version, its on 5 floppy disks. It all arrived today so I happily plugged everything in and was set to play. Having been born in the early 90's, I never got to experience some of the awesome PC games which influenced gaming. Doom is still on my to-buy-list. Anyway, I plugged it all in and tried to run the Install.exe file and it wouldn't work, got an error message saying that it wasn't compatible with my version of windows (windows 7 ultimate 64 bit). I had figured that may be the case so I tried to run it in compatibility mode and that yielded no results, I still got the same error message. Now, due to this being an MS DOS game, I then made the assumption that I would have to install it in DOS BOX, so I opened it up, set the pathways and ran the install in that instead, at which point I got "error message 2104" and something about a scripting problem on line 29.
This is where I'm at a loss people, due to my own complete lack of knowledge regarding MS DOS, I have no idea what this means or how to fix it. I tried looking it up but found nothing other than something to do with netflix.
I really want to play Tie Fighter, I often here about how influential it and X-Wing were and thats something I want to experience for myself. If anyone could help me get this working then I'll be incredibly grateful. I only hope that it is possible to run these games on windows 7, I don't really want to resort to buying a 15 year old computer just to be able to play a few games >.>
Also on a side note, providing I manage to get this working, if anyone could recommend any good MSDOS games then I would appreciate that too, so far I have Doom and Wing commander on the list.
Thanks to anyone who responds!
