Disney have announced that Tim Burton will direct a live action/CGI remake of Dumbo. Just no on so many levels. Not only is it an entirely unnecessary remake but Tim effing Burton. So we are going end with Johnny Depp in stick on ears playing Dumbo, GG Disney GG.

No Depp will be playing the mouse and Helena Bonham-Carter will be cast as Dumbo's mother.

Hurray for Disney live-actioning the shit out of their own classics!

Wild stab in the dark here but my guess is that Helena Bonham-Carter will not be in it, because Burton ran off with a blonde 20 years younger than him.

Oh okay... Then I guess she'll be playing Dumbo's mother.

They insulted him because of ears and Dumbo undertook a pilgrimage to Tibet to find the legendary mouse sensi. Now Dumbo is back and this time he's stompy.

So is he going to make Dumbo breakdance at the end?

Or is it going to turn out that the asshole ginger kid who bullied Dumbo was actually the hero of the story along?

As always, we must first WATCH the movie, then judge. It is always hilarious to see people calling a movie a piece of sh*t, only in the end the movie being actually a good one.
However I will acknowledge why there are so much reaction about this news [in this Thread anyway].
Also maybe this is something Alice in Wonderland Tim Burton live-action movie: Maybe it would be a sequel.

First Cinderella is just a live-action remake of the original film rather than a Maleficent style stand-alone film, now this.

Oh Disney, to think you've been making the right decisions from 2010 up until 2015.

I don't see why all the hate, if you don't like him as a director, then don't watch it.

Anyway, I remember Dumbo as being creepy as a child, and it seems the perfect story for Tim Burton to do. It could be good, you never know. Has has done some excellent films in the past, and Alice was ok until the dancing at the end.

I'm surprised to read this. Not that Burton cheated on HBC, but that he didn't cheat on her with Johnny Depp, who is surely his one true love.

I hope the bad guys are actually the protagonists and Dumbo turns out to be the villain. That would be so creative and out of the box thinking. Mhm!!

I wouldn't mind (well I do, this constant remake trend is unbelievably pathetic), but he amazed me with the awfulness of Alice In Wonderland, so I can't wait to see how this will turn out. Ugh

Huh. I was just going to make a "Johnny Dumbo" joke only to discover I've been beaten to the punch. Feels good to know that you're not the only one who notices that Johnny Depp is in pretty much every single Tim Burton movie nowadays.

I mean, look, Johnny is a great actor. I even liked his Willy Wonka in Tim Burtons's Charlie And The Chocolate Factory, even though I seem to be a minority in this on this website. And I heard somewhere that Depp and Burton are homies. But for fuck's sake, Burton, you don't need to cast Johnny Depp in every single fucking movie you make just because of that. I haven't actually seen Alice In Wonderland, but am I right in assuming that the Mad Hatter got a bigger role just to show as much Depp as possible? Or am I just jumping to conclusions?

All that being said, though,

this is a good stance to take, I feel. Let's wait until the movie is actually out before we make any further judgements. Also,

this is also true. If you already don't like Tim Burton's movies, chances are that you might not like this one either, so save your money and spend it on something you actually like. If you're curious, you can wait until it's on Netflix or something.

But the film is sad enough as it is. He gets bullied for having big ears, he gets exploited, and his mum gets taken away and gets locked up and is called a mad elephant and dangerous all because she was protecting her baby. I don't think I could handle a live action film of it. Elephants are such great animals. Though I can never watch the original disney film as it is, this scene gets me everytime:

Just nope, nope nope nope nope nope. It's too much. I cry, I get upset and that poor elephant just wants to hug her baby and it's all the worse because elephants do actually cry. When they feel sad, they actually cry. I just... I can't :'(

OT though, I'll probably end up watching it. Because I quite enjoy Tim Burton's films.

I had to read that twice before realising Burton ran off with a blonde 20 years his junior. At first I thought you meant the blonde was 20 years younger than HB-C and you communicated this with a stab at Helena.

Reading comprehension! I've still not regained it.

OT: Oh yeah Burton's got a great track record of late. I'm sure this'll not be a waste of time.

Wait... seriously? I just can't picture a live-action Dumbo movie in my head... so I doubt it'll work. Also, do we really need more live-action adaptations of your old movies, Disney!?!?
