No flames here please, it's all just personal opinions of people and they are entitled to them etc etc /end

Ever brought a game and got it home only to think "Shit, I shoulda listened to that review"?
This happend to me resently, the game in question being - Super Smash Bros : Brawl

I remembered watching the ZP review when that was fresh, and while I don't ever take Yahzees views to heart or anything, I do remember watching that and suspecting I would probabley agree with alot of the comments should I play the game.
Anyway I was in a new (to me) game store on the weekend where it was being sold pretty cheap so I thought, seeing as I enjoyed SSB:Meele on the cube, I'd give it a go... I liked collecting all the little trophies and stuff in Meele so at least I'd have that...
...Oh man, I hate it. Hate the controls, the combat, think it feels like you're only partially in connected to the char etc, just can't play it.
Should gone with my gut, and Yahtzee, and given this game a miss, cheap or not, it's money I could have used elsewhere.

So, ever felt like you should have listened to a review you watched/read and skipped a game?
Maybe it's the other end of the spectrum and you DIDN'T buy a game based on it's review(s) only to play it later and wished you'd never payed them any mind?

FFXIII. I thought naaahh it'll be good. Linear isn't a bad thing.

Ouch. I gave that game something like 30 hours and finally go fed up with how stupid it was and traded it in for BF:BC2. My problems with it were all over the place so I'm not going to get into it. Let's just say the first couple hours were ok but it got stale. Well, the first couple hours weren't ok, as the characters were still annoying... they got slightly better... ugh anyway. FFXIII, should have listened.

I tend to think of Zero Punctuation as half criticism, half outright entertainment, and I enjoyed Brawl. Not sure how you liked Melee and then totally disliked Brawl though - it's more of the same.

Can't really think of a time I've regretted a purchase. Every game I actually buy I make sure I know what I'm getting myself into. I never make impulse buys. I have rented a few meh titles though.

Aliens Vs. Predator
That said... I do have a hankering to play it again. If only because the recent Predators movie makes the game look like a fucking masterpiece.

Oh man, I thought the same thing about that game.

I listen to ALL reviews. I don't get hyped for any game till I hear opinions on podcasts and reviews from Gametrailers.com (don't kill me) and IGN (only the written reviews).

This is because I ignored the reviews twice after buying a 360 (before that I NEVER went to reviews because I was little, it wasn't till I saw the $60 price tag on new games that I was like "I will only buy AWESOME games from now on), those games were Too Human and Far Cry 2. I got burned on both of those games, and no I've lost the ability to get hyped.

I should have listened to any reviewer except Adam Sessler when I bought Too Human. Seriously, the only reviewer that said it was good was the only reviewer I checked with. It's weird because generally I agree with him but that game sucked ass.

I really can't think of a single game that I regret not listening to the reviewer about. Usually I can find something enjoyable in just about any game. Hell, I even found fun to be had in Sonic Unleashed.

As I bought Ghost Recon 2 (or whatever it was called, for the PS2) the guy behind the counter said it was crap.

It truly was, the original Ghost Recon is the best by far, the rest aren't even tactical compared.

Command and Conquer 4 is my item of shame. I'm pretty cool with the rest of the series, in fact, I remember when your dudes used to just be pixelated blobs. I thought "Oh come on, it's C&C! How bad could it get?"

Let's just say that when you gut the core gameplay elements that made C&C so great, it can get REALLY BAD.

The only game was a recent game, and it was Crackdown 2. I ignored every review for it, skipped the Gamescoop/TRL/IGNUK podcast sections where they talked about it, and didn't watch a trailer. Stupid me put faith in the developer (damn Scottish), and ended up being so disappointed. Read the reviews, which only confirmed my opinion, and traded it back in for Mass Effect 1 & 2 again.

Final Fantasy XII. Only I think this one was a case of trusting my instincts and then playing it for the "if you don't play/see it you have no right to complain" mentality and since alot of my friends were playing it I figured I might as well.

See this is what I hoped... maybe I am remembering Melee wrong but Brawl just doesn't feel as good by a long shot

I bought Lair for the PS3 a long time ago, not listening to X-Play, (at the time, they were, in my opinion, the best source for reviews. Things have changed) when they said it was shit. I didn't believe them and I regretted it the second I started the game. I eventually sold it to Gamestop as well as others to buy Gears of War 2 (don't even get me started on that).
