Ok before we get started I wanted to lay down some ground rules. All shows were considered based on the show and not any graphic novel or comic counterpart this is more relevant for the animes.
The show must also obviously be animated and a tv show so no movies.

All the shows were put on based on 4 different factors:
- Popularity
- Quality of story/stories
- Quality of animation
- How iconic and historically relevant the show was.

If you wish to add to the list please suggest a place on the list you feel your show should go and a show you feel should be removed for yours to be added. Please back up all claims with reasons.

If you feel the order is off please feel free to say I didn't spend to much time making sure how strong the order is. This list was based on the IGN list but I edited a bunch of shows out and a bunch in.

Calling NGE the best anime is quite brave if I may say so myself. Dragonball needs to be lower in the list.

Well it was based on the IGN list as I mentioned above so I just kinda left it there personally I like a lot of other anime's a lot more in fact personally I would switch Trigun and NGE around :p

Well if you're making your list, you should feel free to do just that. It can be annoying when no one replies so your list is half-public opinion and half yours xD.

Although I don't agree with most of their positions it's good to see pretty much all of my favourite animated shows are there.

I'd also just like to mention that I never really saw the appeal of King of the Hill. I don't mean that in an offensive way, I'm just curious as to what people like about it.

Honestly I hated king of the hill myself aswell but it was very popular for a very long time so I decided not to remove it.

I don't care what anyone's opinion on anything is in this case.

As far as I'm concerned, Spice and Wolf is the best show of all time, of all time! Animated or not.

Freakazoid at #53?

I am disappoint...

Also Scooby Doo should be in the least top 20, that show was brilliant. One of my childhood shows right there and it was popular, at least in my location.

Disappointed to see that both Ed, Edd & Eddy and Courage the Cowardly Dog are both missing. My two favourites growing up.

Whoa whoa whoa, you don't have like, all the seasons of Pokemon up to when they go to Johto! List incomplete.
Also do you mean all the transformers shows? Cause theres been like 4-5 versions since the 90's.

Edit: I retract my Pokemon statement. I just read over it. THANKS WAKING UP SUPER EARLY IN THE MORNING!!!

I feel like anime and western animated shows shouldn't really be pitted against each other in this way. In terms of narrative and plot development across a series, the two are in completely different leagues for the most part. It'd like be comparing movies and radio plays.

Also Beavis and Butthead was funny once but there is not one chance in the universe that it is a better show than Wolf's Rain or Clannad who aren't even on the list let alone X-Men or even Rugrats...

These 'Top 100' lists need to stop being made, they are nothing but arbitrary, nostalgia driven popularity contests, devoid of virtually all critical virtue.

All of the bronies are disappoint.
I mean, it's popular. You can tell from the amount of people on this channel alone that have it as their avatar.
The stories are, eh, good. Not amazing, and sometimes predictable, but better than half the crap cartoon channels spew out nowadays.
Animation is great, no doubt about it.
Iconic? Yeah, for better or for worse MLP:FiM has had a big effect on the internet. Also, there are a ton of events set up JUST for it. That's pretty big if you ask me.
Again, we bronies are disappoint.
Also, The Simpsons hasn't been funny for a long time.

Whatever show I'm watching at the time tends to be near the top of my list.
Good to see Teen Titans up there, though. Fantastic cartoon.

If I were you, I wouldn't place such recent shows(Archer, My Little Pony,...) on your list. Not that I think it's wrong to compare newer shows to older ones but, you know, give them time to age. Also, placing "Rugrats" above My Little Pony(I assume you mean "Friendship is Magic") might be upsetting to some people.

Why is Spiderman and his Amazing Friends ahead of the 90s Spiderman? That show was aggressively corny in every aspect.

Why is Batman #2? I understand it's good, but saying it's better than Looney Tunes and South Park seems very presumptuous in my book

I feel Daria should be a great deal higher, but that's just me

Adventure Time? Where is it? If Archer is in, Adventure Time should be too

Well I've not even heard of about a quarter of these. American centric list perhaps? I know for a fact that Rocky and Bullwinkle isn't a popular export, neither is huckleberry hound.

Tom and Jerry seems to be missing?

Not happy that Family Guy is even on that list, never mind top ten. Poorly written and poorly animated. Just my opinion though.
