I am confused about the large number of military rifles in this thread, do none of you hunt?
Most people here learned about guns from CoD and America's Army.
Well, I figured that out the second I read most of the lists.

If it wasn't yanked from CoD it was pulled from Rainbow six or some other game.

5. SGT44. Germany started it all, and they did it fucking well. if they had made that gun a few years earlier, they could´ve won the war.

4. M14. to all of you who says that the Garand is awesome, then you would hug the M14 to death, because it is meant as its superior replacement.

3. Barrett 50. Cal. just the thought of blowing someones bollocks off with that thing gives it the 3# spot.

2. tied between M16A3/A2 and M4. they are almost identical, but they are both pure awesome. too bad the silly Americans didnt tell their soldiers how to clean the bloody things.

1. AKM. the sturdier, more reliable version of the already sturdy and reliable classic.

Oh please, people. The best civilian rifle you can get is the Ruger Mini-14. Semi-automatic, uses actual assault rifle rounds, durable, and has very little recoil for what it's chambered for. Fully legal everywhere (As far as I know), even in the gunless wastes of California.
no it isnt legal anywhere. its a fucking rifle. if you had that thing lying around here in denmark (or generally Europe), you would end in jail faster than you can say "gun".

1: AK-47, the REAL weapon of mass destruction.
2: STG/MP44, for being the world's FIRST assault rifle.
3: Lee Enfield SMLE, the rifle which the British used to forge an Empire across the globe.
4: Mauser K98, a very reliable sturdy and accurate rifle which formed the backbone of the German war machine.
5: M-16, the plastic fantastic rifle from the U.S. Originally it was terribad, but with time it has cleared it's name as worst rifle of all time and seated itself in the top 5 as the work horse of U.S forces in the late 20th century.

it isnt. because if a burglar wants a gun, he has to get one from a military depot. also, i got a saber lying under my bed, so im not really scared of burglars.

if i could have a gun, i wouldnt anyway. i dont wanna think about the consequences of forgetting to putting safety on after some shooting... unless my brother´s gonna use it.

This seems to be mostly Assault rifles and not a broad look on the topic

I would have to say some significant rifles are:

The short magazine lee enfield, it was pretty much the best bolt action rifle of WW2 and the weapon of choice for commonwealth forces in both WW1 and WW2 and even Korea.

The ferguson rifle, a rifle design forty years before the Napoleonic war, that could fire four times further than a musket, fire 6-10 rounds a min and be fired lying down. In a time when 2 volleys a min was acceptable and 3 was considered good. Sure it was expensive and less reliable but it is amazing how advanced it is for the time.

Of course the AK47 and the Winchester 1873
I was wondering if anyone was going to mention the SMeLE.

Everyone loves to mention the AK-47, but really the only reason they are still in wide use is because of how damned inexpressive and pervasive they are. It is a great rifle, but not up there with a lot of newer rifles. To many video games, cause every time a gun thread comes up you see loads of people commenting on the great reliability and accuracy of the AK-47, but you never see the civilian version of the AK-47 in competitions shoots - unlike the AR-15 which has been known to be accurate place in 1000yrd shoots.

To many video games is an explanation for almost all of the guns in this thread.

1 AK47 - Its idiot proof and has the same internal design as my favorite rifle. Outside like a SVD inside like an AK, 7.62x54r FTW http://www.snipercountrypx.com/showproduct.aspx?productid=1774
2 M16 and its bastard children ? Good accurate and reliable guns as long as they are well maintained.
3 The Henry repeating rifle - It was the first design that could shoot more than once without having to reload.
4. Mosin ? I have one that is old enough to be my grandfather and it still works like a charm.
5. STG44 - It was the 1st assault rifle!

Kriss Super-V.

45 ACP and no recoil @ 1100rpm.

of course there are greater ones, but this is the most advanced smg/carbine in the world.

Why do people keep saying this? The first assault rifle (that I'm aware of) was the Federov Avtomat which predates the STG44 by almost 25 years. It even saw significant combat, though the Russian brass didn't really know what they had.
