We're well into Gen 8 and Scorpio (and likely PS5) coming soon.

And yet I have some major games from Gen 7 on my Pile of Shame I really want to win someday. (Witcher 3 GOTY on PC takes up most of my gaming time these days). So, when I get to it (maybe when I retire and don't need to work?) these are the gems I barely got into and would be a priority.

The Last of Us
2 is coming and I got stuck on this and Gen 8 came out and I didn't get back to it! I refuse to get the PS4 version. I already own it for PS3 and dang it, I should finish it there.

Mass Effect 3
Most find 2 is better but 3 is more polished looking and easier. I need easy.

Max Payne 3.
A great game with great story and terrific gameplay mechanic.

The Walking Dead
I play that on my Vita so, it comes out when I'm on the go only.

Metro Last Light
Set new standards for what a FPS experience should be like.

Special Ops the Line
Stuck! Just when the story was coming together!

Red Dead Redemption:
I feel like I should like this but I keep getting stuck in a horse race. Instakills supposedly mar the experience. Still, I loved Fallout 3 and think there may be similarities there.

You?

this is not a bad problem to have, when you get to it, I highly recommend pushing through the DLC (this game is long dammit, even with it being fucking amazing it takes dedication to persevere through it.) I think blood and wine is my favorite rpg piece to play through to date, even more so than the main campaign of witcher 3.

OT:

dragonball xenoverse 2: I highly enjoyed the first one, just haven't had a chance to sit down with my brother and play through it.

endless legend: I want to like this game dammit, but I just feel like if I can't dedicate the time to dive into it in larger chunks, I won't do it/be able to.

telltale batman/game of thrones/guardians of the galaxy: tales from the borderlands was fucking *amazing*, still reminisce on it over a year later after playing it, I'd love to binge on these 3 games of theirs too.

x-com 2: I always told myself I'd go back to this once a ton of mods and stuff were out....just haven't had the "oomph" to download everything and jump in.

pillars of eternity: I wanted to like this game, I even made it through probably 4 hours worth, something about it just didn't click by that point, but I'd love to play through it and the expansion before the second one comes out.

Batman Arkham city: The combat seems great, the city seems great, I just didn't have dedicated chunks of hours to dedicate to it which I'd like with a game like this.

I read that we are NOT to try to rush through it. Do not try to just race through it but lavish it. I played a bunch today and, yup. A luxury to enjoy.

Of those, even lame ass that is I finished Arkham City and list it as one of my top 5 of Gen 7. It is fun, spectacular, so enjoyable. Of games that I pushed through so I could say I beat them, I would not include this. Just a joy. My fingers are crossed that you get to finish all that is this greatness!

Is Telltale Batman Gen 7? I just started that! Liking it a lot!

oh it's fine to lavish it if you have the time and are loving the game, but there's no denying that there is *so much fucking stuff* to do, that you might get burned out before you reach the incredible expansions.

I honestly don't know if batman is gen 7, I rarely play console games so "generations" are very muddled together in my head, I just consider all telltale games part of that since they usually are very similar in their hardware demands and style.

True, spec requirements, art style of Telltale games haven't changed. It was released in chapters: August 2, 2016 to December 13, 2016, so, Gen 8.

Gens are fun to watch and think about the business aspects driving them and of what the expectations of new gens promise. Gen 7 arguably started in 2005 with the Xbox 360 (got mine April 2006) and lasted what seemed to be an unusually long time, 2012 with the Wii U console. Seven years rather than 4-6. 8 if you look at how long it was between the introduction of the 360 to the XB1. 2010 was considered to be an iffy economy in which to launch a new console so they waited.

Way more difficult to gauge by PC (or Mac/Linux) as even an older desktop could be modified. Skyrim came out in 2011 and top PCs could do things with it that were noticeably superior to Gen 7 Consoles. I have a 9ish year old PC with a standard clocked I7-930 I just put an AMD RX 480 w/ 8 Gig DDR5 and it's boot up time kills me but I refuse to buy an SSD boot disk for it but once it is up and running, it can more or less match my I7 2600K with an older HD 7970 3 Gig DDR5. They're both playing as well or better than Gen 8 consoles but are much older. So what Gen would you call them?

May have to use entirely different standards.

Initially, I had to install a sound card into PCs. Now I can get 7.1 out of a cheaper motherboard. A new Gen?

How long till motherboards come with built in APUs that can match a $250 CPU with a $250 discrete graphics card? Count that as next Gen?

Fun nonsense though and good for consumers.

I have no shame! I play what I want and quit uninteresting games with little to no regret.
I guess I just hate feeling like I've really missed out on something special, like The Last of Us. But limited time and other even better gaming experiences are out there. And my limited attention span and endurance for frustration has likely made me miss things.

Other games that are perfectly good I likely got for a song on Steam or Humble Bundle. I usually just play through openings and do not regret not returning to extremely inexpensive games. Hope the money helps the developers so they keep 'em coming even if I don't do the game justice.
