This is an odd development.

The next Total War game has been announced, but apparently it's not going to be "era spanning" but rather a game with a smaller scale compensated by the fact that it will have microscopic attention to detail, geographic and cultural. The setting is 878 AD in the British isles, so we'll be seeing a lot of Anglo-Saxton, Gaelic and Norse violence.
Apparently this is a "spin off" called Total War Saga, which Creative Assembly wants in order to have smaller scale games with greater focus that cover "pivotal moments in history" where things could have radically changed if they had gone differently.
I'm rather curious about this, in a good way. I think I'd rather like a Total War game where things are scaled down. It probably helps that, in this era, the size of the armies would be a lot closer to the size of the armies you typically see in Total War.
