For those who can't see the video;

So we all know about #Buttgate by now and how Blizzard responded to one user's (fake and TROLL complaint) by removing pose considered "too sexy" for Tracer.

And now a professional cosplayer doing publicity and invited by Blizzard themselves fired straight them by doing the exact removed pose on Blizzard's live Twitch.tv stream of the Heroes of the Storm Championships. The Twitch Chat goddamn exploded when she did it, and it was hilarious. And the best part?

A real person, in a costume so close to Tracer that she might as well BE Tracer herself...looks perfectly natural and shows the pose suits Tracer just fine.

Yeah.

Blizzard just got slapped on their own freaking Twitch.

Well I hope her protesting what has to be the silliest "controversy" I think I've seen in a long while was worth it. I imagine Blizzard is not terribly happy about that.

I suppose maybe this cosplayer feels so strongly about it that they're willing to take that hit but this has got to be one of the strangest hills I've seen so many people want to die on (and we've seen some pretty stupid freaking hills lately...)

Well, their reason for removing it was some of the worst butt covering (no pun intended) catering to a small screaming group I have ever seen.

Especially as this single pose is one of many in the game. (sighs).

Seriously, ensure it's not the primary pose, add it as an option = tah dah. Those that want it can use it. Those that don't do not have to.

Those with underage children watching Overwatch vids? Tut... you have bigger issues.

If anything, I would ask about who thought that cockney accent was

a) a good idea.
b) sounds anything like British. It's painful!!

If you can call 1 guy being very polite "small screaming group", then yes - that's exactly what happened.

Remind me who the SJWs are in this case? I get easily confuse - it's usually "the Other Side" but it's very hard to track it down. If you mean "the people who were for the removal", then I don't think they did. As in, they didn't make a fuss. If you mean "the people who were against the removal", then they definitely did.

I usually abstain from these threads. But well, lets make a comment.

I find the whole thing incredibly stypid. A designer saud he agreed with a comment that someone made about Tracer's pose. It was removed. So what? As far as the developer is saying there is no preassure. They heard a criticism and reacted to it as they felmt. Good for them. Was it preassure? We have no evidence about that, only conjecture. As far as I've seen we have a sibgle comment, trh fact that it was removed and that a post seems to orginate it ( correlation is not causation, there is no idea the post was the real origin).

Now we have a cosplayer stating her opinion. Good for her. I feel it incredibly ill advised but if she thinks it suits her, perfect. But the final word is the developer. And ahe just either spit on their face if she knew wgat the pose implied and the "controversy" which is never a smart thing to do to an employer or ahe didn't know and needs to do more research. Either way, if she liked it good for her. But if she knew or was told not to it Blizzard is in their right to punish her.

In the end the outcry is ridiculous fromy point of view (and would find it incredibly funny if a "gameplay only reviews" type of perso is threatening to not buy because of this).

Why do you feel it ill advised for the Cosplayer to state her opinion?

EDIT: Oops, or did I misinterpret that and it's just that you think the opinion is ill advised?
as explained below that I consider that the contezt of that statement is ill advised. She used a Blizzard event while on Blizzards paycheck to either insult Blizzard or do a pose without knowing the context. Acting as aen employee either internal or contractor and openely insulting the company and more so duri?g working hours is a terrible move and may carry sanctions or unwillinglesa to look for services after. She ia perfectly entitled to her opnion and srating it, but it was unwise to do it in the manner that ahe did it.

Mmn, I was looking at the other overwatch forum posts after that where it descended into a little more... screaming groups on either side.

(shrugs).

Buttgate?

...

I give up. I'm done. I'm hanging up the hat. It's self satire at this point. There's really nowhere to go after this.

It is also funny that Tracer falls to the ground and we get a nice big look at the fine ass in the latest Blizzard cinematic. It's okay to show that ass in the movie, but take it out of the game! Guess they don't care about showing Tracer's ass, so long as she isn't showing it on purpose.

Me too, unfortunately the shitstorm is more in relation to Blizzard's doffing the initial response and damage control after the fact. Had Kaplan and the rest of Blizzard been slightly wiser and better-possessed of forethought at the time, this would have been no controversy at all.

Remember, the French and Indian War started because the French threatened to shoot someone's cow.

You're one of those people who stops us from having nice things, like a Boat called Boaty McBoatFace, or a Mountain Dew flavor called Gooshin Grannies <_<, a party pooper is what.
____Gate is a dumb thing. I bet most people don't even know the reference at this point, but if told would think the controversy was over water and not about a paranoid corrupt presidency.

Professional cosplayer has an opinion. Opinion does not match up with Blizzard's. That's it. I fail to see what's so hilarious about this.

Then again it might have something to do with everything about this situation being blown way out of proportion and people being way too obsessed with it.

Also. Gate.

Oh, well if she's an employee that's different, but she wasn't. It was just a Cosplayer that got invited by Blizzard, then she can do what she wants, she's not on contract.

Cosplayers at Blizzard Events tend to do satirical cosplays anyways. Remember the guy who coslayed as "He Who Has No Life"?

It might've been my mistake but I think OP implied there was a professional rrlationship. He said "professional cosplayer" ehich implies that it is someone that is foing the cosplay for money (I admit thinking that recenue is for Blizzard was my assumption) and he stated she was there "doing publivity and invited by Blizzard" which for me implies a sponsorship or even contract, in other words an employee or contractor for Blizzard for tje event. If you are openely critizing the company or person that payed for your trip or gave you a spotlight in the event, it seems that she is making a bad move doing something the company she is representing might consider an insult. I thunk of it very uneise if there is any kind og relationship apart from being just an antendee.

And I do not follow Blizzcon but the intention of doing thre pose seems more confrontational than satirical to me. Of course that is ibterpretatiin but it might be an interpretation she doesn't want. It is risky and in my opnion a bad idea for her professilnaly (if I were a company that hires cosplayers I would probably veto her from.any official apperances given she is apparently insulting a company that might have fiven her work and I don't want that in a PR person). But of course that is just my interpretation given the official nature of the stream, that she is a pro and the wording in the OP.

I just find it idiotic, in general. Although more on the reacting side since I think Blizzard can remove or add whatever they want by wjatever reason. And doing damage control to me isn't a sign of wrongdoing, since it might be sincere. But afain that is judt my opinion . This is a non issue for me and almost laughable.
