This game sounds like shit.

But looks somehow looks as fun as shit.

Shit. Both a put-down AND a compliment.

Why Atari games never seem to get the animations right? They're always really jerky and raw :S

Also I wish instead of this game, we got Shadow over Mystara from Capcom :S

A note to publishers: When marketing your game, your first explanatory trailer should show us what's going on and what the game plays like. AFTER we know what's going on, you can show us individual character trailers.

In fact, the way this game has been initially presented to me has completely turned me off.

Ah yes,
the RPG system that brought us Baldur´s Gate 2 and Planescape Torment now returns with:
Guy in armor punching skeletons pretty hard in the face.

I suppose it's childish of me, but I'm getting strong double-entendre vibes. Daggerdale? Let Evil taste my blade? Is that what marketing went with, really? Come back Finbarr Saunders, all is forgiven!

I agree with that point. Also, "Let evil taste your blade." Why evil? Fighters are capable of being any alignment. By attaching a line more suitable for a Paladin to this premature class trailer, I feel like this game will be railroading the player.

Yeah, I think this is going to have as much "role-playing freedom" as a modern Final Fantasy game.

Agreed. Establishing shot first so we have a framework. Then go in for the close-up. Also, if your close-up looks like this, you might smear a little Vaseline on the lens. ZING!

Seriously Atari, you guys hamstung Turbine's marketing attempts for Dungeons & Dragons Online for years until they finally had to sue you. If your money was thrown into making this game, that's okay. This game may be excellent. But if this is your best foot forward to tease the market, then "wow". DDo was probably better off without your efforts.

Well, this game looks like fun, albeit limiting. Disapointed that they were using 4th ed, but hey, at least it is in the Forgotten Realms setting. What I really want to do though is play a Red Wizard of Thay or a Doomguide.

According to Wikipeda, we have only had one FR setting videogame outside of the Baldars Gate/Neverwinter Nights series since 2003

Kind of reminds me of D&D Heroes and the baulder's gate dark alliance games.
Which were fun as hell.
Exactly what I was thinking. As a man with 3 roommates who just beat DnD Heroes for the 5th time, I could use a modern day replica.

On the other-hand I can't see any real gameplay, so I have no idea if this is even the same type of game. It says they have multiplayer splitscreen on their wiki page, but Heroes didn't have splitscreen. Does this actually split the screen for multiplayer? I must know!

Also notice how Daggerdale has a similar typeface to Icewind Dale, and sounds like a mixture of Daggerfall and Icewind Dale.

It looks like a missed opportunity for a decent WRPG on console. But it might indeed make for a decent action RPG like Baldur's Gate: DA.

if this is intended as a D&D RPG than it's a wasted license... looks more like a mediocre Action Adventure / Brawler (which doesnt profit from a D&D license that much as well)

Yes, really. Daggerdale is a location in The Forgotten Realms. There is a whole area known as "The Dale Lands" which is dealt with heavily in the books and PnP RPGs due to Shadowdale being the home of Elminster (Sage and Uber-Wizard... until recently) and in close proximity to the ruins of "Myth Drannor" which is one of the nastier pits of monsters and treasure in that world.

Other dales are places like Daggerdale and Scardale, and all of them have been dealt with to some extent in the books. Truthfully Daggerdale is a decent place to develop for a game as it's been mentioned and used, but hasn't been detailed to the extent of Shadowdale, Neverwinter, Raven's Bluff (RPGA territory), or The Ten Towns (Icewind Dale).

The game itself doesn't look all that impressive, but the title is decent, and works for people who are fans of the setting. Ironically "The Forgotten Realms" is probably the most detailed and built up sword and sorcery world setting ever given all of the books, RPGs, etc... built around it. People aren't kidding about how some people get involved in ridiculously long discussions about "Realmslore".

Of course to most of the casual video game playing market, the name "Daggerdale" means very little, and it's hard for them to see why it's a good place to develop.
