The video actually shows the player character? Meaning either no player created avatar or a canned one. These guys don't know what they're doing.

I hope they bring MERC back at least. Part of the fun of JA2 was turning the sorry bargain basement mercs they offered into efficient soldiers.

^Merc will likely be back methinks, judging from trailer it seems they are going for a 3d remake of JA2 (map, characters, everything is how i remembered it, only in 3d)and though I couldn't confirm AIM had all the mercs we knew and love (and they better, the mercs personalities are one of the things that made the game so interesting) were present, think we can be hopeful that biff, flo, gumpy and all the rest will make a triumphant return ;)

As for the customizable player character, that we even see "ourself" is a bad sign, before you used to be just the laptop guy/gal and it was ambiguous if the character created merc was even "you" (especially as making your own character wasnt even forced, ya could skip it if you want and play only with the existing mercs)
Lack of character creation would be point against the game but so far, im encouraged by what I see for the most part.

Now we just need more info on the game mechanics and combat and if they messed with the series formula, but i'm cautiously optimistic about this game.

Oh god, I hope so much they don't screw this up. JA2 was one of my all time favourites.

But yea, you remove player customization and you've lost half your fanbase immediately.

YOu know I've always wanted to try the Jagged Alliance games but they apparently don't work with Windows 7. Anyone know if there's any fan patched that can fix that. This looks pretty cool. They didn't do anything dumb like try to make it a first person shooter set during WWII.

Is it Deadly Games? I have that one too. They gave it to me for free because... I don't know they're just awesome like that I guess. Anyway that's the expansion pack so that's probably why there's no instructions on how to actually play.

I wouldn't be that worried about it. He's probably just a place holder character used for promotional purposes. Like default male Commander Shepard and the Nord Dovakin.

I like the guy having a heart attack at 0:55.

It will either be a nice spin on both the JA series and real-time stragety, (placing more focus on individual units than the overall battle plan), or an uninspered entry on both. Wait and see.

Oh wow, holy crap - this news just made my night. The poor Jagged Alliance IP seems to be kicked around like a freakin' unwanted orphan but it's permenantly engraved as one of my holy trinity of awesome games. It seems like the owners of the rights inevitably go under. Thought for sure I'd never see another one...

Words can't express my excitement!

Well, at least one developer has made a much-needed mental leap: "Shooters are more popular than TBS games. However, if I make another shooter, I have to share that market with 500 competeting games. If I make a TBS game, I can get most of the market since they have nothing else. Therefor, making a TBS game doesn't neccesarily mean less profits for me."

Now let's hope they don't botch the design and programming side of development.

They posted on their website that there wouldn't be a "player character", at least there wouldn't be one at launch (lemme try and find the quote).

For the release version we do not plan to allow selfcreated mercs. It could be possible that this changes in the future - but that'd be guessing from my side. So don't nail me down on these words. - bitComposer_Michael

Hate to tell you my friend, but it's no longer a TBS. It's more like a RTS, and the gameplay seems like utter shit.

Look at 1:15 and then start to weep.

Not sure which one you've tried, but Jagged Alliance 2 works perfectly fine on my 32bit Win7. No fan-patch or anything is needed for it.

I have 64 bit Windows 7. The page on GOG.com says it's only compatible with XP, and Vista. I haven't actually tried it yet.

I got Jagged Alliance 2 Gold Pack from play.com and that worked on Win 7 64 bit fine.
Only issue I had was a missing save converter for "Unfinished Business", which is also an issue for people who got it off steam.
I was able to get some guy on IRC to upload it for me, which was nice of him.

Not sure about 64-bit, but I managed to start JA2 today without any problems whatsoever, so I'm assuming it'll work. From my experiences, Win7 seems to be a lot better at handling oldies, than Vista had been.
