They keep saying they're giving us Xcom and yet mysteriously I've yet to see anything remotely Xcom related in any of these falsely labeled trailers and previews.

I don't see any hope for this game. All I see is a vaguely cartoony shooter against a generic alien menace that features a *shudders* cover system.

Alright. Starting to see where this is relevant to X-COM now that they've added in some suggestions of R&D as a core feature and more or less seem to be going with mission-based squad gameplay as opposed to linear shoot-outs. That's what this trailer seems to suggest, at least, with the dispatch office taking over for the Geoscape for the management/sim portion of the game. It still seems like it would've been a better idea to take a different title with it, though, given that no audience is going to look past the superficial dissimilarities.

wait, we send our very best to fight aliens and arm them with guns that were designed to be cheap to produce?
does not compute
this also is not x-com

I see exactly zero relevance to X-com in this trailer. What I do see is another generic shooter with aliens trying to cash in on name recognition and I hate it for it.

I know people are excited for this but...this looks generic as hell. Unless they do something really special here story wise I'm not remotely interested in this. It's just riding off the heels of Bioshock and Fallout 3's success with their 50's theme around 3 or 4 years too late.

I think that this game should be from this point forward refered to as "Xcom" with the " being Sarcastic finger quotes.

To be honest I'm going to take the same route I took with Bioshock and wait to see the reviews then get my mum to buy it for me decide whether it is worth the £30 or the £19 5 months later.

This really doesn't look very good. I could be wrong though, it's kinda hard to tell from a trailer alone.
If it still retains the base building, R & D, manufacturing, a dynamic campaign and Rank system but does away with the strategy for first person shooter levels it might be decent. However, it's more likely it's another plot driven shooter like 1000 other games.

Ok I don't see a single sectoid in this trailer at all or any flying power armor. I really have to question why 2K decided to attach the X-Com named to this franchise. The target audience is either going to be too young to know what X-Com is or are going to be pissed that it's so different from the original. It's basically a no win situation. Don't get me wrong I wouldn't mind playing an updated X-Com game where the battles took place in first person and I could zip around in flying power and level entire buildings with blaster bombs. I just don't think we have the technology to do that right now.

A smarter move would have been to call the game something else like "Enemy from Beyond" and keep the fact that it's related to X-Com a secret that's only revealed after you beat the game. You could even include the original X-Coms on the disc as unlockables. That way you don't piss off any of the old fans and it's a clever way to introduce new players to the franchise. Hell have fun with it. Have a contest where if you can beat Terror from the Deep on superhuman you get something like 5 dollars off the next X Com or exclusive DLC. Then once you have the mechanics ironed out you could make a proper sequel. Basically just let the game stand on it's own merits.

Oh boy it doesn't look right, but who knows.

What what government makes "protecting the population" the top priority? Yeah right!

In other news, andross is behind it all.

This reboot was announced at last year's e3, and there has been hardly any publicity for the game since. Switching genres was a horrible decision, and, as many have already stated, this generic shit hardly resembles xcom.

What is it with reboots these days and completely screwing over beloved ips?

Err.. no..

Seriously, this might be the best game ever made and might elevate everyone who plays it to a level of such enormous spiritual development that they generate a telekinetic wave and destroy neo-tokyo and I still won't buy it.

Make up your own IP people. It's not that hard. Noone cares if you copy X-Com in terms of aesthetic and/or gameplay. The UFO series survived by doing that. But coming up with a working title would take a couple of marketing people a few hours at most.

We're not idiots. We can see that the game you're making has nothing to do with the IP it is named after.

Wait, what the hell? I liked the first trailer, believe it or not. Despite it being globs of black goo, I really, really liked it. It had a sense of mystery and curiosity. You went into a house and looked around for the clues. Trails of slime going off into wall ventilation.
You shot them up and collected information about them. What makes them tick and what stops them from ticking.
The situation gets more intense as finally it goes out the window and this huge obelisk starts sucking up materia, you run and abandon the site with as much research as you could get.

And now,

This trailer, you can't see shit! There's no curiosity, because everything just zooms past the screen and creates rubble. This looks like a Crysis copy or something. Ironsights, cover system, bullets zinging all over with no sense of control or strategy.
*Sigh*

You know,
I actually had faith in the guys. I hoped they would have retained the sense of mystery. Remember when you first sat down and played X-COM UFO Defense? The first time you took down a UFO and recovered some Elerium or did your first autopsy?

Shit, I used to love to cut up the Floater race, they looked so freaky.

But...
I... I look at this and every ounce of hope I had disappeared.

*Sniff*
I don't want to live on this planet any more.
