With a success with the 3DS, I am starting to wonder about how the Nintendo Wii U. The tablet does look like something that can change gaming in a positive way, it sounds very innovative and has a lot of opportunity. However, Nintendo has said that they want to compete in the "Hardcore Market", and like it or not, Graphics are important. Not for games, but for attention. Rumors have been flying out saying that the Wii U can't run at the same graphics level as the Xbox 360 and PS3. Now, before this was said, it was heard that the Wii U is stronger then the current consoles, so really who knows how powerful the console really is? But it is not, and I mean NOT a good idea to release a console that still can't compete with current generation consoles. I don't want to play the same games I play on my Xbox 360 with lesser impressive graphics and a touch screen controller. I know Nintendo is all about the "wow factor", but really nintendo has to stop relying on gimmicks.
If anyone who has played Zelda Skyward Sword, you know that was a terrific game, but the motion controls didn't make it a better game. It didn't make it worse, but it didn't make it better.
Anyways, Your Thoughts on Nintendos Future?
(keep in mind, they are losing money, Wii U is their final hope.)

It's Nintendo. Even if they fail in the console market their 3DS will pick up the sales. Though I'm more worried about Sony then Nintendo. I just read on the news that they cut 10,000 jobs and might lose some money (Not sure how much. On one site I read about 2.7 billion. On another I read 17 million or something like that meh...) Unless of course thats old news, but STILL I think if any console fails it gonna be Sony first.

I shall hold off any and all judgement of the Wii U and Nintendo's future until their unveiling at E3.

I'm pretty sure Nintendo could spit on cardboard and people would buy it in droves, buuuuuuut, I'm not sure the WII-U will be successful. The reason the original WII was so popular is because of the casual direction and the low price point.

Not to say the WII-U won't be cheap (comparative to its power), but it certainly won't be as cheap as a WII or 360 (Might be cheaper than a PS.) So it's doubtful that Nintendo will be able to recapture the casual market. I also can't see Nintendo capturing a 'hard-core' demographic as Nintendo doesn't have very good relations with 3rd party developers and why pay another 200, 300, 400 bucks for something that looks slightly prettier than what you already have.

Of course they'll capture the 'fan-boy' demographic (for lack of a better term), but that's to be expected.

Though, I'm probably wrong, as usual.

Well first off those rumours about how the Wii U aren't as powerful as the 360 and PS3 are crap. The quotes saying that were just pulled out of nowhere and not attributed to anyone. They were totally unfounded and most likely complete fabrications just to create traffic.

I don't really know how the Wii U will do for hardcore gamers. If the thing does have double the power of the 360 like other rumours say then perhaps it will have potential, even if it's still far behind the rest of the next gen consoles. But not being equal will almost certainly hurt it, no matter exactly how powerful it is. Shiny graphics impress. That's just the fact of the matter. Also it could have the same problem as the Wii has with 3rd party developers, in that none of them can be bothered to make games for it since it will have hardware so different to other consoles.

I'm sceptical of the controller too. It looks cumbersome to me. Apparently people who have handled it say that's not the case at all, but I want to hold it myself first before I decide. It seems rather redundant to me too. Video games haven't been yearning for a second screen. No-one ever felt the DS was the biggest and best innovation in gaming ever and all future gaming needed to be done in that way. It just doesn't seem necessary to me. Also the way that you can use the screen on the controller as a substitute for the main screen while another person watches something else on the TV seems to negate the whole point of it to me. Why bother designing games to utilize this second screen if they're all also designed to not need it? I don't see the point.

I want the Wii U to be good. I want it to have good 3rd party support like they are trying to make us believe, and that it will bring Ninty back to having more well deserved respect among the "hardcore", but at the moment it doesn't have a lot going for it in those areas. Although playing an HD Zelda without having to use motion controls sounds bloody brilliant to me.
