Turbine Tactics not so bad after all, eh?

After the constant complaints of Turbine's community being asked to come to The Escapist and participate in March Madness, it is refreshing to see that those tactics have been realized as fair and effective and are now being utilized by The Escapist themselves.

Everyone signing up for the Webby voting to support The Escapist (myself including) should not expect old-timers there to attack us for participating in an even and supporting the company that sent us there.

I found irony in it, personally.

Well, I've not signed up personally, BUT from what I understand, the 'webby award' or whatever it is have no permanent community/forum. Hence, everyone who signs up there is doing so to vote and not affecting the existing community, because it does not exist.

This. Also, the idea of an award being decided by an open vote, in which most of the voters don't have experience with all of the nominees, makes that award a meaningless indicator of quality. The winner won't necessarily be the site that is considered the best by people who know all the nominees, but the site that has the most visitors or advertises the award the hardest. Popularity doesn't equal quality, and advertising certainly doesn't.

That's why I won't give the Webby Awards much respect. You can draw your own conclusions about my opinion of the March Madness result.

I'm glad you felt smug enough about this to make a thread on it. Personally, I haven't signed up or voted yet.
This too. OP contains as much smug as a PR person for Microsoft or Sony.

Seconded.

Turbine should make an effort in this chance to redeem itself in the eyes of the Escapist; doing otherwise makes the Turbine community loose even more respect.

They made a link on thier site to the MM page as well as a link on the Escapist. So when Bioware was being voted purley by members from the Escapist the Turbing Fanboys here called for backup. Which i don't think was fair.

I honestly do not care. It would be nice for the escapist to win an award for being a great site and all.

Don't take the turbine thing personally. This sort of stuff happens. Just like the gamefaqs yearly game character competition.
