Turn off rumble 360 controller on PC

A few months ago i bought a xbox360 controller (wired) for PC, but now it doesn't work so well. Whenever it starts to rumble it freezes and i have to unplug and plug it again. How can i turn off the rumble?? some games let me do it but others doesn't, how can i do it for every game?

Not at home to confirm, but believe this should work:

Press the guide button -> Personal Settings -> Vibration -> uncheck the box that says enable vibration

The only thing I can suggest is to either try and switch off the vibration in the game's settings (if available), or run your 360 pad through a program like Xpadder and see whether there's an option to disable the vibration in that.

It seems like a recognised phenomenon though, so you may be able to find a better solution searching the web or posting the question on the Steam Users Forums.
