When I first got my xbox (when gears 1 came out), I made an xbox live account. However, my xbox wasn't even connected to the internet, and I never used it. When I finally did connect my xbox to the internet, I made a new account. Couple of days ago, I remembered this xbox live account I never used, and thought I should delete it. I looked it up online, and some people said that you have to call the xbox help centre to delete your account. So, I called the xbox help centre (1 800 my xbox) and asked if I can delete my account. The answer I got was a big no.

"Huh? Are you telling me that I can't delete my own account?" I said
"That's right" The guy said
"That's kind of stupid isn't it" I said
"That is rude, this call is being recorded, and you should watch what you say" The guy said
"Well excuse me, but THIS IS JUST STUPID, WHAT KIND OF AN IDIOT THOUGHT THIS WOULD BE A GOOD IDEA" I said
"Listen kid, I don't have to deal with this" The guy hangs up

I realize I might have lost my cool, and the guy was calm. However, I stand by what I said. I didn't like microsoft too much to begin with, but this incident just made me hate microsoft.

Bottom-Line: I don't want to be part of the systeeeeeeeeeeem maaaaaaan

You could, y'know, just go into your HD Memory and delete the profile. That's what I did. Offline accounts aren't permanent, and they CAN be deleted. Online accounts are saved into a cloud database and cannot. If it's an Offline account you can just go into memory and delete, so you did overreact for nothing.

If it was an Online account, it's not a big deal anyways.

While im not sure what the problem with just keeping your account and continuing not to use it
It is rather odd that you were not allowed to delete it, i thought it was against the law for them to not let you delete your account but it seems i may be wrong

I would suggest trying to call again but this time keep your cool. Ask nicely and be polite and then you might find out why you can't delete or if there is a different process.

You can't delete most accounts you make. I've tried to delete accounts on countless websites and always get: "there is no way you can delete your account."

Just put in garbage information on it and let it sit on their server, taking up space. That's the worst punishment you can give.

Ummm.... Just delete it from your hard drive and let the online remnants disappear into oblivion.

Problem solved?

i'm fairly sure you can delete it via the forums. Good old microsoft have developed a rep for awful phone support but excellent online support. Also you get to stop by the "why was I banned?" pages. Always a good laugh.

I actually didn't know that you couldn't delete your account so this is news to me. But you did knid of overreact, and so did that guy on the phone. "That's kind of stupid isn't it?" is not rude unless you were directing it at him, and it didn't seem like you were. but you also shouldn't have started yelling at him either. He also shouldn't have hung the phone up on you because that was more rude than what you ever did, but I guess that it helped him keep his cool or something. Either way, you now hate Microsoft just because you can't delete your account? That's a pretty stupid reason to hate something, you shouldn't have to worry, even if someone magically hacked that old account, unless you put very sensetive info on there, it wouldn't really matter that they hacked it.

Yes, well, they're not exactly known for customer convenience. I had to phone up just to stop them taking money out of my account - something which should be presented on the exact same screen where I pressed the "give money" button.
