I have had an odd problem for many years now and am only now trying to fix it. Now I have tried a bit before, but never really delved deep into it to find the problem.

Simply it sounds like my sound is literally turned around 90°, I notice this is mostly in first-person and third-person video games. My right side in the game seems to be my back, and going counter clock wise, my front seems to be my right, my left is front and my back is my left, in terms of how I hear voices and sounds.

So lets say I am in a game like Skyrim or Red Dead, if I am walking beside someone, and he is on my right, I can barely hear a word he says as if he was behind me. Another example is in Skyrim in the intro, when I am in the horse carriage and the horse thief starts to talk I can't hear him very well unless I turn to face him, because he is on my right side.

So my question is how do I fix the sound to be where is should be? For the record I am using a Standerd Definition Television.

Thanks Escapist!

What kind of speakers are you using?

Are you using standard RCA cables? AKA Yellow/White/Red?
Yup, Standard RCA cables and the speakers inside my Sony SDTV. I posted this same question in the games forum and someone mentioned the AV cables and it just occurred to me that might be the problem. I am not sure yet though, I'll try switching them to a different spot on the TV, if that doesn't work maybe i'll try replacing them.

Are they in the correct slot? (Is the red jack in the red port etc)

Because with White/Red audio any "surround sound" would have to be faked because White/Red only puts out stereo audio (right and left channels). It could be a problem with the sound card in the gaming console that's trying to fake the surround sound but failing and that's why you're getting sound off 90 degrees. Does this happen with all games or just some?
