I don't know if this topic has been done (if it has, feel free to shut it down, but it didn't appear in the search engine), but I feel it would be ripe for discussion here.
So what is Twitch Plays Pokémon? Basically it's a "social experiment" being streamed right now where the community of Twitch is given full control of a game of Pokémon Red. Any commands written in the chat will be put into the game in order (with a 20-40 second delay) in the hopes that it will inevitably lead to victory.
Right now the stream is 4 days in, and they've so far completed 3 gyms, with around 45,000 viewers on average. The stream has become a huge phenomenon and has even gotten it's own memes.
What do you think of this kind of experiment? How long do you think it will take for the game to finish? Will they win ever? Have you accepted the Helix Fossil as your lord and saviour?
I'm right now watching the chat spend several hours trying to reach a tree and use Cut. It's glorious in it's own deranged way. It's impressive that this kind of collective playing could actually get them anywhere. I heard there was some extreme despair surrounding Route 9. And apparently there's a small cult surrounding the Helix Fossil. It's quite perplexing.
