Irony seems to fail the person who has alleged Chuck E. Cheese's ticket-dispensing games sow gambling addiction in little children, and filed a lawsuit in California seeking a $5 million jackpot.

Denise Keller, a mom of two girls ages 5 and 3, says in her potential class-action complaint that Chuck E. Cheese's arcade games are akin to slot machines. By offering tickets as a payout that can be redeemed for prizes, the machines "create the same highs and lows experienced by adults who gamble their paychecks or the mortgage payment."

Keller's lawyer, naturally, says it's not about the money but the kids. California law forbids gambling, except for in whatever cases it doesn't (like an Indian casino) but it makes an exception for payouts if the contest is a predominantly a game of skill. Whether skee-ball is more akin to poker or blackjack or neither will be a judge's call.

She's a bit late with this one don'tcha think? Something tells me she didn't win much at these games when she was a kid and is holding a grudge.

The one thing that popped out is that she claims she's doing it "for the kids" but if that was the case then why are you asking for $5 million!?

She is teaching her kids a valuable lesson. In America, why work for a living when you can make a fuss over nothing and get free money.

She's gonna lose and have to pay Chuck E. Cheese, because gambling relies on luck where as those games are all skill based

Hunh....

I dont have anything to say because I'm just confounded by the stupidity, so I'll say this.

is it true you cant be in a C-e'-C alone if you're OVER 18? Cause that seems to defeat the purpose

God, I am so tired of parents these days. A bunch of idiots running around treating their kids like they are some sort of Godsend. What happened to the tough love parenting techniques? You know, spankings, groundings, all that. Its not child abuse, its teaching their kids how to act right. Anyways, this 'mother' falls in with the rest of the condescending asshole parents out there. I really hope she loses the case. I really really do.

Do you ever experience this knee-jerk desire to drive to someone's house and slap them across the face a few times to exorcise the stupidity demon? I know I do.

And there I was, thinking I could rant about the new rules some more.

But yeah, what a fucking fun-sponge. I am so fucking bored of these people. Don't like it, don't let your kids near it. Its not complicated.

Headlines tomorrow: School raffles and fundraisers banned. Drawing name out of a hat banned. Teaches children to enjoy the random aspect of gambling and the outcomes.

ACtaully, in a somehwat less serious note, does this mean we cant teach kids about probability and fractions and such, as they make kids think they can gamble efficiently?

Yeah, that was the point I was making. Where are they going to draw the line here? I can think of hundreds of things that could be twisted into "encouraging" gambling with the right barrister on your side.

What?

I don't even....

Why?

*Sigh*

I used to go to CEC all the time when I was a kid. I think gambling is just stupid. It's just sad that people will actively seek out was to make quick money. She has no basis and a very limited argument.(Some games really are just plain luck) She will not win.

Why go to CEC at all?

Is your taste for bad arcade games greater than your distaste for bad pizza?

Also, the American legal system prints money.

Sorry, parenting is too hard. We need laws and regulations to do this for us while we spend our extra free time watching TV.

I swear, kids don't have the same opportunities I had when I was a child. I was kept in line by a father who kept tabs on me.

More in a long line of fun destroying laws/cases...
