i have been told all my life that i was diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome at the age of four. I just read an article saying that It causes lack of empathy for humans and difficulty in understanding nonverbal cues. I have realized that i do both of these things, and im wondering if i should be worried. do you think so? i really want to stop, and i just figured out why it is so hard to.

Well, as long as you don't walk up to someone who's been impaled by a spear and just kinda laugh at 'em... You should be fine.

Don't worry, humans usually aren't worth the empathy. Plus, you have an excuse.

I apparently, after extensive testing from multiple people, don't have asperger's syndrome. Although I still find it somewhat hard to believe. Don't be worried. Empathy is for chumps.

Depends on how it affects your behaviour. If you can live a reasonable normal life without hurting anyone else then I see no problem.

If you're smart enough to type that post, then you're fine. Hell, you could probably get some government benefits or something, seeing how everything has gone PC.

There we go

You shouldn't worry, as long as it doesn't cause any negative effects in the future.

It's not that hard to stop, sometimes... depends on the person.

My bro has the same thing actually :/
[sub]People think I may have a more mild form of it too, I think he passed it on >_> damnit.[/sub]

He's a lot better now he's older though, so maybe you could just grow out of it? :0

Again, depends on the person >.< but if you've been doing fine till now it's not good to worry yourself even more over it.

If you're already worried about it your obviously fine as far as caring about hurting others.

As for understanding non-verbal cues... i'd imagine that does more to affect your social/romantic life than anything and that kind of sucks... a big one.

I wouldnt worry if I was you, is it really bad in your case? Empathy is over rated anyway :)

If you feel weird, or the need to hurt someone, get yourself a padded room.
Hell I'd get myself a padded room just because it would be fun to jump around in...

Eh. I'm perfectly fine with it, but then again, I've been diagnosed with some sort of "mild Asperger's"

I didn't know there was such a thing, but I guess so.

I don't understand why doctors say that because I'm not overly obsessed with anything and I just don't like most people rather than socially awkward.

Your statement and avatar go hand-in-hand. I like it!

OT: Don't worry... As long as it doesn't kill you, that is.....

A good friend of mine has Asperger's, he's fine just a little socially awkward at times. He's gotten over his disconnection to people (to a certain extent) and is now luck enough to be marrying a wonderful girl later this year.

Don't worry, there's hope yet :)

You should be fine.

If your really worried, go see a doctor, but I don't think you need to worry.

Well, im going to abandon all modesty here and just come out and say that yes, i am, in a way, a psychopath. i do want to hurt people when im mad. in horrible ways. ways worse than ED: offended. ways that make Hostel look like Carebears Adventure in Happy Island Super Magic Fun Land.
