I'm sure we've all seen the videos of players trolling underage children on the mic in TF2 before, but I'm curious as to the opinions of the Escapist. I can speak from experience that it's annoying, I was once (And can be still considered) an "underaged gamer" or "squeaker" as some say. First time I joined a server with my mic, I spoke alot. And got kicked with the reason "Come back when your balls drop." I took this very literally, and didn't use my mic until afew years had passed. That was say, 4 years ago. I'm 15 now, I use my Mic in CSS and TF2, and I rarely get comments on it. If it annoys people, I shut up and use the regular chat. But that's my experience. What do you guys think?

Eh, "squeakers" (totally remembering that term for later use) are a bit annoying, but I tolerate them so long as they aren't making improbable allegations about my ancestry or sexual preferences.

Besides, y'know... mute button.

I knew I didn't like Team Fortress 2 and first person shooters in general.

Kicking someone for having a high pitched or less deep voice than the rest of players?

Just like making black people sit in the back of the bus or keeping droids out of your cantina... people never change.

I'm usually one of the people who trolls squeakers. Got one to cry once. T'was a good day.

This is one of the reasons I hate the xbox live community and love the PS3 community, on the PS3 the little kids don't have mics.

Usually with videogames if you have a high pitched voice the mic distorts it to an even higher pitch, to the point of causing PHYSICAL DISCOMFORT to other people when you talk.

I tend to mute people that are annoying, but really I have more problems with people in general that are too loud. Originally bigger problems stemmed from the fact that voices were loud and overly amplified which made the pitch way too high and way too loud which results in ear damage (okay, not really). Other players do the same, but at least with deeper voices it's less piercing.

I don't really care that much whether or not they have a high pitched voice, about a year ago, I was talking to this 10 year old British kid who was pretty frikken awesome, despite his high pitched voice. Unless they micspam, and/or just cannot handle themselves properly, I rarely ever mute them or troll them.

I'm told I am pretty patient with younger players. Going so far as to try and help them turn down their mics if needbe.

I know that if online gaming with voice chat was viable for me when I was 10, I would probably have done it. I'm not immediately dismissive of young players, I find that adult players are almost as likely to annoy me anyway.

I mute anyone that's annoying. High-pitched voices count too. I don't make an attempt to kick them though, that's not nice at all.

It's that simple.
Boom. No need to kick them when you can simply mute.

Don't believe the sheep. TF2 has one of the worst communities I've ever played in. Doesn't stop it from being a good game, but still.
Team Fortress 2 USED to have a good community. Then people started obsessing over hats and trading instead of playing the actual game and working as a team.

I don't necessarily mind playing with younger gamers. I just get annoyed at the ones that talk trash, interrupt constantly, whine excessively, micspam, etc. Basically they're fine as long as they don't act like a dick. Then again, that applies to just about any player regardless of age.

I personally have less of a problem with the sound of a persons voice than I do with the content and volume of said voice.
Even then I rarely find people speaking in games, whether PC or console, the only people who seem to talk are the younger gamers and it might be a mixture of content, volume, and just a general case of most people don't talk why is this person blathering like an idiot?

I often play Action RPGs, so I pre-emptively mute everyone and never talk. It's just not necessary. I do my trolling through text.

There is a difference between "underage" and "mentally immature". I have no problem with the former, the latter can consist of 40 years olds and still piss be off.
