So I was thinking the other day, whilst having my Xbox and knowing NOBODY who has one, I asked the fairly noobish question to my Pc Gamer buddy: If Microsoft owns both PC and Xbox 360, why not have servers that allow (non-modded) Pc games and Xbox games to be able to play with one another? So for example, playing L4D2 with both PC and 'box players on the same map. He didn't really give an answer as such, saying it would be hard to regulate.

Which is true, but that doesn't really stop it from being impossible now does it? So I broadened my thoughts, looking at the amount of games out that are on absolutely everything, why is there not a method in which to bring PS3, 360 and Pc gamers together in a large royale rumble of sorts on Black ops?

The Pros, the ones that come to my mind at least, would be that Friends who have different consoles would still be able to play together on any games that are on all systems allowing a greater reason to buy a particular game if say you're the one person in your group who owns a PS3. I could also see more competitive modes being imagined using the long fogotten-but-for-some-reason-still-apparent "Console Wars" Team Death matches 360 Vs PS3, that sort of thing.

The Cons, Marketing would be a ***** for starters as it could blend the consoles a little too much and with the lack of console only titles about right now, it would be one step closer to just having one console(something a smart person would know is a very bad thing), Servers would be a pain in the arse seeing as they would be required to be third party and then who would be monitoring them and who would pay what amount and having all three console/Pc interfaces bouncing around may pose a problem as well.

Well the way I see it the closest thing that we have to that is Games for Windows Live, and that isn't good. Plus the two communities seem to be different in many respects, plus the different limitations could stack the odds unfairly in competitive play. Think if there was a VS. Match for Left 4 Dead 2 with a team of all Xbox Infected and a team of all PC Carriers, I believe the control schemes between the two would be too great a gap. And whenever there is a royal beatdown, there will almost always be resentment for it.

I believe theyre doing that with FFXIV PS3 and PC. When It finally comes out. Which is whenever its good.

Thing is, this thing would work for RPGs, but not for FPS or TPS games. The different control schemes usually have one console thats superior.
