What are your favorite video-game weapons and devices that fit those criteria, especially the third? My vote goes to the chainsaw in Alien Swarm. Carving up aliens like Thanksgiving turkey has never been so much fun!

EDIT: On second thought, it might be the Experimental MIRV from Fallout 3. 8 H-Bombs at once equals pure win.

Probably a scythe. Its a farming tool, not a weapon. It would be completely impractical in a real fight, but it looks totally awesome.

I'm just going to say chainsaws in general. For those of you who haven't ever tried to cold-start a chainsaw, it never, ever takes less than a full minute to fire. Even then, you have to make sure that it doesn't run out of gas. Or that the gas has the right percentage of 2-cycle oil in it. Or that the chain oil stays topped off. Or that the blades stay sharp. Any one of those will result in the chainsaw not working.

A chainsaw bayonet is actually incredibly stupid (a smooth one would dispatch guys quicker) but somehow I still love slicing a locust in half with it.

The mauler in Halo 3, its a Revolver/pistol/shotgun that shoots white hot spikes and has a double bayonet!

Hm....

I'm going to have to go with the Shishkebab from Fallout 3. It's a damn lawn-mower blade jammed into a motorcycle gas tank and then set on fire. It is a damn, FLAMING SWORD!!!

While in the real world this would be useless and the heat alone would cause you to drop it, holding a flaming sword and slicing anything to charred bits is damn awesome.

In No More Heroes one of the people you have to take out has a Cannon the size of the Vatican and fires it at you. You kill her by avoiding the 50 feet wide blasts and getting close to her, since the gun needs like a minute to charge after firing. I think she was the Number 3 Rank Assassin as well, and she had a weapon so ridiculous and inefficient.

Calumon: Shoot fire out your mouth... It's gotta hurt!

well i could totally put down cloud and sephiroths swords for starters..those monstrosities are utter ridiculous..but super awesome at the same time.

however, i'll just say the nuke gun in me2 (i forgot its name) but the ammo you have is in "%" so when you charge up and fire that sucker its blowing whatever your aiming at sky high but its totally worthless besides that one bigass shot.

I think you might be mixing mauler and spiker up. Although, a gun with the combined traits of both of those weapons would be flipping awesome.

The Shurikangs in Castlevania.

..They are really crosses, but I've been calling them that since I played it the first time. Completely unnecessary to use crosses. ..I don't think they are very inefficient, but they kick ass at killing death, which makes them totally awesome.

Samus's screw attack. It's a pain in the ass to kill some enemies with it, but it's AWESOME.

I'm gonna have to go with the Painkiller freom Painkiller. Or, as I like to call it, the Clawesome Sauce.

It's a claw that rappidly spins and fire lazers. How the fuck it works is utterly beyond me, but who cares? It's just that awesome.

it easily takes less than a minute! i have to start them at work a lot and it takes about 30 seconds.

anyway, i'd say nuke launchers but they're definately efficient. plastic bag? a la manhunt.

Hmm, I want to say the VECTOR CANNON from ZoE 2, but it isn't really "Unnecessary," as you need it in one boss fight, as well as to get to Aumaan...

The Cain? I love that gun, the explosion is so violently pretty. Handy for thresher maws too, or anything that looks at you funny, really.

Okay, I'm guilty of a little hyperbole. Still, even 30 seconds is so long that by the time it starts, the fight would be over.

OT: The final optional summon in Golden Sun: The Lost Age. By the time you get it, there's only one boss left it has a type resistance. The cinematic that goes with it shows your enemies being picked up, beat up, flown into space, and thrown into the sun.
