It always struck me as strange (and a little irksome) that out of all of human history, videogames tend to reuse the same periods of time over and over again. For example, there are a trillion WWII games, but I don't know of any real ninja games set in feudal Japan, which is something I'd love to see. Any other good vacant historical settings?

India during the time of British Colonialization. You could play as a soldier in Ghandi's army and achieve total victory by simply not doing what the British said.

Brit - Press X now!
You - No.

If there is a period of history that hasn't been covered relentlessly by video games, then it's unlikely anyone will be able to list it. Because we play those video games XD

And I really would like to name one, but none come to mind. Well, Native American - in a way. I mean, they're around. But I feel there's a lot of potential there. That should be Rockstar's next big non-GTA project :D

Isn't the Tenchu series based in Fuedal Japan?

There's also Onimusha, but that's more of a Samurai game in playstyle.

If you want to know a time period rarely used in games, it's the real dark ages.. I mean, there's plenty of games based in settings that use the dark ages as their base, but they're not really like what the dark ages were like.

Poor World War 1, always having the spotlight stolen by its younger brother...

So, then you've never played any of the Tenchu games?

I wouldn't mind seeing a civil war game. You'd pretty much only get 1 shot, better make it count.

Something to do with the Mongol invasions.

I would love to see a game about that.

EDIT: Apparently it has already happened. Nevermind then.

In that case I choose the Spanish-American War.

Just so I can charge up San Juan Hill with the epiphany of manliness known as Theodore Roosevelt.

World War One. Though then again it would probably not be a good game, unless it was an indie game who's meaning was the futility of war... actually that doesn't sound so bad.

You know what we need? A Dynasty Warriors style game set during the Hundred Years War.

The Dark Ages....

It would be a good era to do, as no one know what went on and you could just make shit up.

Klondike gold rush Alaska, could be cool. (heh hee, I didn't mean that)
Not enough Mongol games for my mind either.
I'd like to see some current-gen games set in the eighties or nineties, that could be very interesting.

WWI wasn't all trench warfare. Why not do some of the non-trench land battles or even try a WWI flight combat game. The German Fokker tri-planes were abrudly agile (they could do a flat-half-spin, which means doing a 180 in mid-air without stalling).

Spainish Civil War is also quite unused.

Mongols are too over-publicized, give me a game about that time back in the 700's when Tibet came down off their mountains to kick China in the teeth and cut peoples' ears off. Back before Buddhism turned them into pussies. Since China is on the mind, a game following Mao Zedong on the Long March, evading the Kuomintang and building support among the peasants.
