UPDATED A SECOND TIME!! PAX 2009 Escapist Meet Up Anyone? (AKA West Coast Meet-UP)

Now for those of you that do not know, Penny Arcade Expo (PAX) is Sept. 4-6 this year. It is the annual gathering of all things video game and wonderful in this world and all the actual information can be found here: http://www.pennyarcadeexpo.com/

Now that we are all on the same page, I was thinking (and sort of collaborating with a few Escapists) to make an Escapist meet up at PAX this year. I am definetly attending and was interested to see if anyone else from out hallowed community would be. I thought it would be cool to meet up, talk, make a few pictures, and generally just meet in person. Also, it would be at PAX one of the largest video gaming conventions in the world; so all the better.

As I am not really sure if anyone other than myself and a few close friends on here are going, I really just wanted to see if there was any interest in such a meetup. If there is enough people (honestly ANY number of people would be great) then the next stage could be planned.

Okay, finer details.

PAX starts at 10:00 Am all three days. I unfortunetly cannot amke the first day on time and will show up late, Ill get there at about 4ish. So I cannot organize a meeting on Friday, but if you guys want to you can. If you guys really think we should meet, we can work somehting out, but as it stands, no meeting on Friday.

Saturday and Sunday both start at 10:00 am like Friday, and I plan on having our meet up then.

My plan is for us to meet at 9:00 am so that we can get a good place in line and talk together a little before we jump into PAX. Additionally, we can get breakfast and chat as well. I wanted to meet in front of the main entrance to GameWorks, across the street from the Center. I will be there. You will notice me because I will have some kind of flag and I shall be wearing a utilkilt, and shouting ESCAPISTS! all the time...yeah, this will be fun

We can meet up there, do whatever, then get in line. We can hang out all day or not, it doesnt really matter. What I do suggest is we go to the LoadingReadyRun panel on Sunday and tell them whats what and how we are from the Escapist and junk (full schedule at http://www.paxsite.com/schedule.php )

I also suggest we go out to lunch together at least once and talk/get pictures/rag on people who aren't there... I mean... be kind and courteous We can choose where on the day of.

So, is that a plan?

Also, if you like nerdcore rap, check to see if there's a MC Frontalot performance the Thursday before. We saw it then, so Saturday night we spent our time playing Apples to Apples and I played the Battlestar Galactica boardgame with Jerry. The more free time you have at night to hang out with people, the better.

Friday is near impossible since that's the normal Freezepop/Coulton night.

Unfortunately, we're having a baby in May, so travel to Washington is not happening. Do take pictures and send them along. I'd love to see you guys having fun.

Count me in, I'll see if I can muster up the cash for this. Living in Alaska, it shouldnt be too hard on my budget. Mind you I might have to work an extra job just to go, so you'd better freakin appreciate it. Oh yeah, I'd have to miss a bit of school too, but oh well.

So I have 2 definates (you and Flying Emu) one maybe (DigitalJedi) and a bunch of "take pictures"

Considering I live, like, 10 minutes away from the convention center, and have gone the past 4 years, I think it's safe to say that I'll be there.

A suggestion: somebody should probably volunteer to 'run point' on this, and stand in a particular place, for a particular time period (usually 30 minutes or so) holding up a big sign that says "the Escapist" on it, and then the mass of people who form can adjourn for recreation at someplace less hectic (Gameworks across the street usually works).

It would also be a big, big, BIG help if we could get some sort of 'official' blessing from somebody on the Escapist staff, and maybe even have them be exhibitors at the convention itself, or inquire about being included on a relevant panel, or whatever. Or, even at a minimum, sticky an 'Penny Arcade Expo: Escapism' thread to make sure that folks who might also be attending PAX have a chance to see that there is going to be a gathering of the Escapist community.

Now that I have your attention, I shall show my plan for PAX:

WE can do this one of two ways:

First, we can meet at Gameworks or Cheesecake Factory across the street from the convention center on one of or all three days before PAX starts in the morning.I would be standing in front of the store with a sign of some sort. When we are all together we can talk a bit, get some pictures, then get in line for the exebition hall.

OR second, we could all get into line and meet eachother in line with somekind of complicated bird call system. After we all get out of line, we could meet in the foyer of the convention center and take pictures, talk, etc.

What do you guys think?
