Valve Hires PS3 Developers

Three former employees of Sony-owned developer Naughty Dog have been hired by Valve.

Valve has mixed feelings about the PS3; founder Gabe Newell, has made his rather negative opinion of the device abundantly clear, while other Valve staff have said that the company would like to support the device, but won't do so without a special team [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/92875-Valve-Explains-Lack-of-PlayStation-3-Support] that could focus entirely on PS3 development.

Signs suggest though, that Valve may have started to put that special team together with the hiring of three programmers from the Sony-owned developer Naughty Dog, known for its work on the Uncharted games, as well as Crash Bandicoot and Jak and Daxter.

Vitaliy Genkin, Alex Vlachos, and Elan Ruskin have all joined Valve, which would seem to be good news for PS3 owners who have had to go without the Left 4 Dead games and got a less than stellar version of the Orange Box.

Well this looks like an interesting development, I'm looking forward to more Valve releases on the PS3, even though I actually don't have any Valve games on the PS3, but shhhh.

No! Bad Valve! Keep to your word! I hate people that say one thing and do the other. I also have a strong... dislike for the PS3.
I think it was just Gabe Newell that spoke out against the PS3, meaning that it was just him that has turned on himself, though I may be wrong...

I guess this is good news. But I'm not that hyped up. Valve games are, and will most likely always be, best on PC.

OK, there reaching out...this can't be too bad. I mean, they would never sacrafice part of the PC version to make it more compatable with the PS3, right? RIGHT?

In all seriousness, this is probably just an attempt to expand the fan base. This means that they'll have more resources to make even better games! Or this plan might crash and burn.

At least this means that people who don't own PS3s can survive without getting an earful on every Valve thread about how the updates won't come to them and how picked-on they are.

Thats just... you know what? I'll let everyone else do the accusing. I'm just gonna do what I was born to do.

OT: Well glad to see that your getting over your Anti-PS3 ways. Which have been described as pointless.

Calumon: It's not nice to leave someone out of your games. Let everyone play! YAY!

Since when is branching out and expanding your horizons for more money a bad thing.

Here's hoping this leads to good things, then. Still just a PC guy this console generation, myself, but if this means expanding their playerbase, neat. ...as long as it doesn't make Valve-time even more stretched out than the current norm. >.>

I understand the first half, but why the hate for the PS3?
I expect the first PS3 outing (if it's even going to happen) to be in the so-so to good range. The second outing will likely be a huge improvement.

Good, now PS3 owners can stop acting like Valve owes them something.

...or alternatively they'll just keep complaining that nothing has come out yet, hard to tell.

Oh, it will be, they find any excuse possible for them to do just that. Its not new, so no worries, we'll still get ep. 3 in 2223, and it will kick some serious ass.

Now PS3 Orange Box owners can be happy that Valve may be updating them.

I hope they release some of their games on the PS3, my computer's having some problems supporting Steam right now.

How dare other people get the chance to enjoy good games because they don't have the same system as me! Shame on you Valve

I don't care about Valve at all anymore. *shrugs* I hope that somehow they become a financial failure and Gabe is reduced to selling himself on street corners. Then arrested and sent to prison where he gets beat by some gigantic weight-lifter because he found out that Gabe was in charge of "HL2: Episode Three".

The Orange Box for PS3 was sub-par?

Could have fooled me...
The console versions were sub-par in every way imaginable. Not having update support a' la PC version with maps, upgrades, etc. for TF2 and Portal ended up hurting the game severely. Fuck, us 360 owners are STILL waiting for upgrades Valve promised initially.

I heard the last squad update will be coming soon, so if anything, once it's released they'll be able to port em all into the console version. Otherwise, there's no fucking excuse whatsoever.
