VALVe's Plan for "Meet the Pyro"?

This theory is very far out there, but it IS possible ... to an extent.

Basically, I was thinking about "Meet the Pyro" and how, at this point, there really is no real point in it being made. I mean, the "Meet the ..." videos were originally trailers for TF2 before it came out. Even "Meet the Medic" was basically a trailer for "TF2 - F2P". However, "Meet the Pyro" will be there to announce nothing, its demand only there to put an end the "Meet the" videos. Hardly worth paying for a team of guys create it when they could be working on something else ... like Half-Life 2: Episode Three.

But then, an idea just popped into my mind. What if, and this is a very BIG what if, VALVe made a "Meet the Pyro" contest?

Think about it: The replay recorder they added to TF2 is almost the same thing they used to make the "Meet the" videos. They even had an awards show for the replays. Plus, you can also import animations into the game and, yes, use the replay recorder to film it. What if the contest was "whoever can make the best 'Meet the Pyro' video gets [insert gift things here, blah, blah, blah] and has their video become the official 'Meet the Pyro' video"? The only problems would be that it would have to be highly regulated and you couldn't have new voices ... but then again, it would be the first "official fan-made trailer" for a game.

Just a random thought I had. What do you think?

Sounds like something VALVe would do. Except something more along the lines of getting the winner to their studio and create it with them.

I think it would be neat idea leading to the "real" thing, but honestly I wouldn't want the winning video to be put up there with the rest of the meet the team. Mainly because fans wouldn't be able to use the same movie graphics Valve has with the recorder, but mostly because they wouldn't be able to match the awesome unique humor Valve puts into these things.

As for promoting something, they could either release it on another large multi-class update like the UBER update or just make a specific Pyro one, especially since all he got the last time was the detonator compared to entire sets for the other classes. (Cept for the engie, poor poor engie) Anyway the winner of the fan-made meet the Pyro update could get first dips on the new weapons/hat with maybe some other kind of cosmetic bonus to make them unique.

I think the meet the pyro video should have the intro teasing Half Life 3/ Episode 3 and then have the pyro burn it up and laugh his/her ass off.

The point is that the "Meet The ..." videos are promotional material. Is Valve likely, now, to have any other reason to create promotional videos for a freely available game that has more or less reached the end of its update spiral?

Has valve actually declared that there going to be no more large updates? Because if otherwise, it would be more likely that there would be more large updates, especially since their only form of monetisation is now selling new items.

They're old, they should have been finished a long time ago, Valve are a bunch of lazy motherfuckers. Not as bad as 3D Realms was but only because they eventually get shit done.

#1 - I've never played TF2. This is just a thought that came to me the other day.

#2 - Your post has nothing really to do with the subject and the question of the thread.

#4 - Yes, VALVe is extremely lazy.

#5 - I've grown tired of waiting for Episode Three myself. At this point, I don't even care enough about it to even be looking forward to it. It would have to be really special for me to spend money on it, as its story no longer has any relevance.

It will most likely be Team Fortress 2.5, as VALVe cannot count to Three.

Also, I were Gabe Newell, just to shove it up all the asses of all the people who joked that VALVe can't count to Three, I would release Half-Life 3 as Half-Life 4. Then, the game that would be called Half-Life 4 would be Half-Life 4: 2.

And for an excuse for it to be made, they'll probably attach a trailer for HL ep 3 as some sort of easter egg that an obsessive fan will find and spread around the net like wild fire.

I doubt it, although it would be cool.

Your basic idea is upgrading the Replay system to be a slightly easier to use version of Source Filmmaker, then giving the fans a premise and telling them "go nuts".

I don't like the idea of a more amateur version of Meet the Pyro, look how Meet the Medic turned out when it was done by the professionals at Valve.
