Video capture and editing software suggestions

Hello Everybody

My name is Graeme and I want to record and edit some gameplay of Supreme Commander. I have no experience with video editing or capture but I am thinking about using fraps and window maker to record and edit my first video. I wanted to know people's thoughts on this and suggestions if this approach isn't optimal.

I think it's the ideal approach for a beginner.

Second. Fraps is pretty decent (if a bit fiddly) and Movie Maker is okay for a beginner, but ultimately very limiting (and oftentimes pretty dodgy).
