Video Game Documentaries

I recently watched 'Indie Game: The Movie' and it's excellent. Very interesting and quite emotional at times. I've also seen 'The King of Kong' (about Donkey Kong champions) which is also pretty good.

Can anyone recommend any other documentaries about video games?

I'd recommend the recut of Indie Game: The Movie. Much better.

As an indie game developer myself, I don't think I would ever watch that movie and enjoy it. Just from watching the trailer with so much fake drama and pretentiousness was just overwhelming. King of Kong was sorta the same way.

I remember a few years ago on SBS there was a documentary about EVE Online, and how it had become almost a second world.

Can't really find it though sorry. You might want to look into yourself.

IGTM and KoK are both really good. I am personally REALLY excited for "100 Yen: The Japanese Arcade Story". I gave their Indie Go Go a lot of money a way back. It's getting released really soon. Looks super cool and I am not even competetive. If you liked Indie Game The Movie, google that one. It's seems similar, if from a different POV.

King Of Kong was heavily scripted, and they accepted that and didn't try to "hide" it or whatever. The whole battle between Wiebe and Mitchell was taken way out of proportions. They are friends IRL.

There was certainly some pretentiousness in IGTM, but it was well made in every way. The difficulties the people went through were are real, but there is no denying that all of the people in that film are fucking insane. It's interesting and I would still recommend you give it a try, but if those kinds of people annoy you, you will be annoyed, but it was fine for me, personally.

I really recommend Second Skin. Its about MMOs and effect (both positive and negative) they can have on people. It features games such as WoW, Ultima Online and Second Life.
