Recently, I finished a novel called Mass Effect: Revelation, by wondrous author Drew Karpyshyn. And it was good! That's right! Something good based off of a video game! The suspense builds.
So, the discussion value here is; Have you ever read a video game novel? What was it? Did you like it?

I have read the Halo books. They are quite good. Those are the only ones that come to mind, really... well, there are also the W40K Dawn of War books. those are... ok.
I did want to read the Mass Effect books though... I suppose I'll buy them next time I go to Forbidden Planet...

Lord of the clans.

Its still one of my favorite books. Books on warcraft lore are usually pretty good/interesting.

The 40k books, but those don't count because they've got video games and of course they came from a tabletop RTS already so it seems reasonable that they would expand into written media.

I read the Baldurs Gate book many years ago when I was a kid, it was crap because it followed the story of the game except the main character in the book was completely different to who I was in the game due to all the customisation and I lost interest halfway through because I knew how it ended from the game anyway.

I've read all the Mass Effect books (not the comics though, need to find them), but my absolute favorite (and best books based off of a game/series IMO) are the Perfect Dark books and comics. A bit hard to find, but they are very well worth the time to track down.

It seems that books made from video game franchises turn out quite well. I've read a few and enjoyed them even if the writing styles are sometimes less that stellar. Why can't it be that way with movies?

I read both the Mass Effect books. They were very good in my opinion. I've also just started reading one of the W40k books "The Founding". Pretty good so far. As I've said before, I don't think I'll read the Halo books, I'm trying to put that behind me.

I read the first of the Starcraft books (can't remember the title). It was written by Jeff Grub who also wrote a few of the Magic the Gathering novels (which were fantastic btw). If memory serves me correctly, it was actually really good.

There was also a series based on Doom. I know it doesn't seem like it would have a lot of substance, but it was a fun read.

Starcraft novels are great, except for the 2nd ine (Shadow of the Xel'Naga). So are the Diablo novels. And as some people have said, the Halo novels.

Blarg I was completely ninja'd! Did you read my mind or something!? Anyway, I agree, the Halo books are fairly good and I want to go buy those Mass Effect books sometime. Would've bought them by now, but I still have no money from buying ME2 ironically.

I've read quite a few. I own and read all the Halo, Gears of War, and Mass Effect books.

I also own and read both the Perfect Dark book and comic and they were pretty.

For manga I read all the LoZ. (thanks to this handy app) A bit of Metriod, and the Disgaea 2 (which are now very hard to find)

I'm actually surprised of how many novels based on game I've read.

I've actually been thinking of getting those books. Mind you, last time I read a book was 5 years ago, and I stopped about half way in because I got so bored. If the writing is half as good as the games' though, I reckon they'd manage to keep my interest up. Quite interested in space and the likes. I'm still put off though, my economic situation isn't the best and I just got hit with a 100 euro fine, too.

Don't really know when I'd fit in time to read books in my daily schedule though.
