I'm doing a survey for a summer class (insert violent gaging noise here), and I need subjects to fill out a 12 question survey about games. It will seriously take less than 5 minutes, and I sort of need this to pass the class.

https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/38NFSHY

This survey is both annonymous and confidential. None of the information you provide will be used for profit or market research. This is a completly acedemic exersice.

Thank you all so much.

Survey completed good man.

Good luck with whatever you're using the data for.

Out of curiosity, what are you collecting game data for? I know it's for class but... why?

I'm trying to answer two hypotheses:

1) The fewer violent games a subject regularly plays, the more likely they are to view videogames as art
2) The younger the subject is, the more likely they are to consider games as art.

It's either this or another survey on candy and soda, and I just thought this was more interesting and more relavent.

Thank you so much for filing it out!

That litterally took 30 seconds . Any other easy questions?

Good luck with your work.

Interesting, I hope you get a good grade.

Thank you to everyone who's given me feedback. Someone pointed out that the lowest age is 18; because M rated games are what I'm most interested in, I can't ask if anyone under 18 is playing them (since M rated games are for "mature audiences"). Thanks again to everyone who's helped me with my research, if anyone's interested I'll post my results in about a week.

Thanks again!

Don't forget. The ESRB lists the gaming age for Mature games as 17+

Something to consider.

Other than that it was relatively painless, good luck with your research.

i'd like to ask something ; why is the study only 18+? is it because the people you research need to be adults or...?
My concern in including an age group younger than 18 was that I didn't want to seem like I was encouraging minors to play violent (read "M rated") video games. It wasn't until someone else pointed out that the ESRB actualy rates M as 17+ that I realised my mistake.

Thank you for not only taking this seriously, but providing real feedback. I have adjusted the first age bracket to go 17-23.

Thanks again everyone!

Yes but there are plenty of people under the age of 18 that play M rated games.

It took me a while to figure out how many hours a week I spend on videogames. I'm going to set up a stopwatch for further use. XD

My first copy of GTA (Vice City) was when I was in higschool, I think around 15. So yes, I have no illusions that ESRB rating are ignored.

But there are a couple of legal issues, issues aside from ESRB rating, largly about solicting information from minors without parents consent. If I'm honest, it's just one more thing I'd rather not deal with.

well here's the thing; i'm 14 myself and i play mature games and games that are rated for teens (or whatever it is , i live in europe and we work by ages).
i played games like witcher 2 etc. and i wasn't there for nudity , violence etc. i was there for the story and becoming emersed in the world
also most underage people who go to the escapist are people who could be considered gamers that actually play more than cod etc. , otherwise they wouldn't visit this site... or am i wrong?

In any case, the ESRB, or any rating system in fact, is merely a guideline for parents. It's not like minors aren't allowed to play those games. If parents deem it acceptable, it's in their right to buy an M rated game (or an equivalent thereof) for their minor child. When I think back to school days I can't remember anyone who has been playing video games and not had any experiences with M-rated stuff. I'm pretty sure the situation hasn't changed since then.

Also, the options for the number of M-games in possession is far too low, I'm pretty sure I have at least a hundred of those :p

Thar you go, bro. Though I've never measured my weekly video game playing time. Just estimated.

Though don't underetimate the power of candy and soda.
