Ok, I need a little help. Send me a link to your favorite Video Game trailer. Whatever it may be. I'll be using the one I think is the best in a speech I'm giving

The speech is on whether or not video games can be considered art/ if they are truly "vulgar". It's just for a speech class, but I want it to be as damn good as I can get it. At the end of the first part of the speech (video games as art), I'll be playing the trailer.

Hmmm, wouldn't showcasing some gameplay footage be better for your argument? Trailers rarely depict how the game will actually play, and they often don't even use the game engine.

That said, I nominate the Old Republic E3 2010 trailer (even though it illustrates my point perfectly, it's still awesome. It's also Star Wars, which will no doubt be a familiar setting for your audience):

EDIT: sorry about the broken link there at first. I'm not very experienced with Youtube embeds yet.

If I used actual gameplay footage, I feel like I would end up using too much time. Seeing as the trailers of games can show what a game will be about and "move" a person the same way a piece of art may move a person. I figured it would be the way to go.

The Old Republic trailer is a good example of this.

Do you not feel something when seeing listening to the monologue, or seeing the ensuing battle? From seeing the soldier nearly killed only to be saved at the final moment, or the fleet of ships moving in to free the planet from Sith control?

It's these things that I'm looking for. As far as the speech goes at least. I wouldn't use gameplay footage for this reason as well. The feeling you get when playing a game, about doing something epic, or whatever, comes from actually playing the game. Showing a class some gameplay footage instead of having them play something wouldn't bring about that same feeling.

Deus ex human revolution

This one looks really good for a people to look at while you talk about video games.

*edit* I thought you would keep video games trailer streaming of edit scenes together from a number of trailers to play while you were giving the speech. That said, I really recommend Deus Ex it really is a gorgeous trailer.

If that's what you're looking for, I'd go with the Mass Effect 2 launch trailer. It's amazing, the production quality is at movie trailer standards.

I have to say. I'm enjoying these quite a bit. One trailer that I was looking at before I posted this was the Wrath of the Lich King Cinematic trailer. It has a great monologue, incredible graphics. Everything in it comes together extremely well.

If you're making the argument for video games as art (which I assume you are if you have an Escapist account) Heavy Rain might be a good one to showcase since it has a greater emphasis on narrative than in-your-face action and explosions that usually raises eyebrows among non-gamers.

If games are considered art then this game is going to be a mona lisa. Shadow of the Colossus was one of the first games I remember being called art and this is the continuation of Fumito Ueda's dream. But some one said it better use game play footage, you can find all types of awsome game play videos.
Definite +1 for this. I highly condone using The Last Guardian for whatever speech, regardless of subject or location.

But if I must give my own...

It just oozes personality and character through narration, music and all that.
