The throw together a bland, unexciting game in as short a time as possible to coincide with the cinema release of the movie. Hence why most movie to game adaptions are usually shit.

The game industry has seen the movie before the general public and thus make a game.

The drive to get as much money, by placing the same thing in as many consumable goods as humanly possible, makes those shitty movie-games.

What about the converse in a good director? I wanna see a Half-Life movie! Starring Hugh Laurie as Gordon Freeman.

Indeed, the problem with most games based on movies is that they really are treated as an afterthought or another way to rake in more revenue from the obsessive fans who have to have everything related to it. As a result, what you see in most movie-based video games is a poor attempt at recreating the experience of playing the characters in the movie that inevitably has to have something layered over the top to actually make it "game-like" - usually putting in enemies or obstacles in a level where in the movie, the characters simply go to the next destination.

The only way to solve this stuff is to ensure game development has enough time to release a decent game in parallel with the movie release, but that is difficult given the constraints on time.
