So I'm currently glued to my TV right now, watching reruns of the first season of "The Walking Dead", waiting somewhat impatiently for the season 2 premiere later tonight.

I only recently discovered this series a few weeks ago (stumbled upon it by accident while surfing the internet), and got immediately hooked. I started talking about it to a few of my buddies at work, and turns out, only a minority of them have watched the show, which really surprised me.

So here's what I want to know, dear Escapists. How many of you have watched "The Walking Dead"? What do you think of the show? Like it? Don't like it? Never heard of it? Are you planning on watching the premiere tonight?

I enjoyed it. Haven't read the comics, but I would like to someday, when I can afford it. It got slow at times, could have shortened some of it. I hear Season 2 will follow the farm arc of the comics, so maybe that will flow a bit better with one location that isn't some random spot with trees everywhere to hide the zombies until they're on top of you... >.>

I haven't seen it (I don't watch much TV) but it sounds interesting. I'll have to give it a try sometime.

The rest of the first season never lived up to the quality of the first episode. Seriously, first episode was the only good one. The rest of them were kinda boring. And when I heard "adagio in D minor" in one of the episodes, I was kinda pissed. What is it with people using that soundtrack in everything?

I watched the first season with my cousin and I'm craving for more. Probably just gonna wait till my cousin gets the next the full season on blue-ray. I hate waiting till the next week for a new episode.

I watched the first two episodes and enjoyed them, but because of technical difficulties that's all I've seen.

I watched it, i don't like it. Why ?
- "yet another Zombie movie"
- too different from comic book (which is f*ng awesome !)
- full of cliche elements
- poor choice of actors, for example : Rick looks like insomniac/addict

Don't get me wrong. It is good tv show, just nothing special.

I thought the first episode was good, the rest were a bit slower. I didn't mind that it's not following the comics exactly, so I can be surprised when someone is killed or isn't killed.

Big problem with the first season though is why they decided to go to the CDC instead of the fortified nursing home, the pretend gang bangers were running. More guns, more people.

I'm actually on the opposite end of this, I like the show, I don't like the comic book.
I personally find the TV show's take on the characters to be somewhat more interesting. The comic book to me just ends up being oddly formulaic. Each one is just this constant series of one character getting mutilated, another dying, the characters meeting other survivors, getting into a quarrel, and the main cast turning on the other characters which leads to the mutilation of a character and the cycle repeats.
The comic ends up just being an overly dramatic human piece with zombies as the backdrop.

Well, of course that's your opinion and i have nothing against it. :)

But allow me to do a short comparison here : as for now, tv show is your typical zombie movie. There are moments of peace, times of running, chasing, battling - no element is dominant. I honestly can't see any difference betwen "TWD" and Romero's movies. "Dead set" was much more innovative. Sure there are new and interesting ideas and scenes in "TWD" (Rick in tank, that was awesome !) but main theme stays the same. Zombies-survival-shot-run-bad coward-bad traitor-brave leader.

Comic book is about something completely different. Sure, there are moments of complete chaos, bullets fly, meat cleavers do their chop-chop routine, limbs fall on the ground, but it's not that important. Comic tries to show us the process of change, accomodation of people to completely new world, and a mad one that is. It's about dialogues, about minds, agendas, characters their inner problems. Zombies - as opposite to show - are somewhere away, they are constant danger, sure, but they aren't main things to worry about.

Process of Rick's transformation alone makes comic book worth buiyng and reading. That's why i don't like actor. He doesn't seem fit for challenges that await him in the future. Unless of course Tv show will go it's own way, leaving comic book script behind.

Ultimately : To each his own i think. I'll stay with comic book. ;)
