So I played Warcraft 3 and it's expansion frozen throne. They were awesome. Loved the story. Loved the gameplay. Then World of Warcraft came out; originally I signed up with my dad and brother and played for a few years; we quit after that due to various reasons. Anyway the main point is that I felt that WoW was very disconnected storywise from Warcraft (due to the 4 year gap and the way the story had to be told). I was wondering if after 3 expansions WoW had added anything to the rich story of Warcraft.
So I perused the WoW encyclopedia and WoWWiki looking for "lore" and other such things but to my dismay found nothing that continued a main storyline past vague and general details such as "Arthas is in Northrend", "Illidan is in the Outlands", "Deathwing has emerged".
While these are definitely big occurrences there doesn't seem to be any flesh to what is being said such as the how/why/who helped/who opposed/why do we care aspects. Is there anyway of accessing any more in depth story content without actually having to play WoW; which in itself is a very roundabout way of accessing the main storyline what with levelling.
P.S. Yes I do know about the background books but I'm looking for free / online options.
