Welcome to We Are Our Avatars IX! This is an open world, character driven RP, meaning you can do pretty much what you want (within reason, of course).
I'm TrilbyWill, and I'll be running the thread. Mostly, this just means I'll enforce rules and do world-related stuff. However, as this is character-driven, plots and the like can, and mostly will, be done by you players.

The premise is simple. Your character is your avatar. They have the same powers, personality etc. OCs (Original Characters) are allowed, just find an image for your avatar that best represent them. But remember to make sure they fit the rules.

Rules and Guidelines
You only control your characters
You can't use other players' characters, with a couple of exceptions;
1; The character is plot-necessary, but the player is unable to post. You should play in character and I would recommend this be pre-planned between the two players (this also includes things like reminding other players that someone else's character is following the group by saying "Dave followed the group").
2; If another player allows you to use his/her character, for whatever reason.

No Over-Powered Characters
Whether or not a character is OP will be decided on a case by case basis. If you think your character is OP, ask us.

Posts Must Make Sense
This applies to grammar, spelling and roleplaying.
Basically, a Skyrim character shouldn't know what an iPhone is, etc. This rule takes a back-seat when it comes to language barriers, however, otherwise a load of characters wouldn't know what's going on.

Various Codes
You can do a lot on the Escapist, from underlining and emboldening to putting in YouTube videos and sound files. You can find a guide, complete with examples, here [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/18.850242-The-Escapist-Users-Guide-to-Posting-Commands-and-How-to-do-Fancy-Code-Stuff?page=1].
Generally, we use colours for character dialogue, to differentiate between multiple characters and often to demonstrate a change in the character's voice (though this isn't necessary). Italics are usually used for thoughts.

Location, Location, Location
As I mentioned, you can have your character go off and do stuff separate from the main group (though if you don't have other players' characters with you it could get boring).
Because of this, I'd ask that you specify location of your character at the top of your post, to both let other players know who is near their character and to remind us of where they've gone.

Plots and Subplots
If you want to run a plot/subplot, please PM me with a basic outline of it first. Then, wait until I give you the go-ahead to start it off.
The reason for this is so we don't have a whole bunch of villains running around at once.
I also recommend asking another player to help GM it, especially if you're in a time-zone that limits how much you can take part.

A word for new players
This thread is largely unconnected to the previous ones, with the possible exception of returning characters. Though it isn't necessary, we have a TVtropes page [http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Roleplay/WeAreOurAvatarsEscapist] which you can use to see what's happened before.
Also, we have a chat group [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/groups/chat/We-Are-Our-Avatars-OOC-Group] which we use for Out Of Character stuff.

Name: Tavish DeGroot
Age: Early 30s
Height: 6'/183 cm

Biography
"A fierce temper, a fascination with all things explosive, and a terrible plan to kill the Loch Ness Monster cost the six year old Demoman his original set of adoptive parents. Later, at the Crypt Grammar School for Orphans near Ullapool in the Scottish Highlands, the boy's bomb-making skills improved dramatically. His disposition and total number of intact eyeballs, however, did not.

Word of his proficiency with explosives spread, and it was not long before Crypt Grammar received two visitors; the Demoman's real parents, who lovingly explained that all Demomen are abandoned at birth until their skills manifest themselves, a long-standing, cruel, and wholly unnecessary tradition among the Highland Demolition Men. His unhappy childhood had ended, but his training had just begun."

Ever since his real parents took him in at the age of eight, he was trained to use explosives to kill people. His family was very poor, despite having a long lineage of expert demolitions experts working multiple jobs as mercenaries. Tavish's own father worked 23 jobs in the mercenary field until the day he died and still barely made enough money to feed the family. The pay for mercenaries was apparently so bad at the time that Tavish's father would "walk five miles in the snow to blow up the queen of England for a nickel".

Tavish was expected to find work as well to help support his family, and although he was too young at the time to work as a mercenary, he still would take work in any place he could find it. And it was on one of these jobs, on a Halloween night when Tavish was just eight years old, that he was cleaning the ancient and powerful wizard Merasmus' library and discovered a mysterious speaking tome known as the Bombinomicon. The book tempted Tavish with unimaginable skill and powers with explosives, but the book had evil intentions. Tavish did absorb a large amount of knowledge in his short look at the tome, contributing to the explosive expert he became later in life, but the book "haunted" his right eye, causing it to fly out of Tavish's eye socket and become a monster on it's own.

Tavish grew up to be far more successful than his father. He only worked three jobs, but the highest paying of which was for a company known as Mann Co, which earned Tavish an annual income of five million dollars. He began work for Mann Co in June, 1968, and held that job until March of 1972. With this money, he bought the old DeGroot castle in Scotland, and the DeGroot distillery grew to be a very successful business and it is presumed that Tavish aquired even more money from this side business, but it is uncertain if it was him who ran it. It produced many different kinds of alcohol, but Tavish's favorites are the scrumpy and rum.

With Mann Co fought alongside a team of eight other mercenaries from around the world, blowing up countless other mercenaries until Grey Mann attempted to take over Mann Co with a robot army. Mercenaries from both sides teamed up against this new robot threat, and Tavish once again proved his prowess as he not only survived the invasion, but played a large part in repelling the horde of metal men himself.

However, Saxton Hale, the owner of Mann Co, lost the business to Grey Mann in March of 1972 due to a loophole in his company's policy. Tavish, along with all the other mercenaries, was fired. Tavish quit all of his jobs and lazed about at his mansion for six months, watching tv with his haunted sword, the Eyelander. One day, Tavish was visited by three guests: two of the mercenaries he used to fight with, as well as Ms. Pauling, who used to do the dirty work of destroying all the evidence the mercenaries left behind to keep them out of jail. Ms. Pauling offered a chance at getting his old job back, but first they would need to gather the other six mercenaries.

Tavish followed along, and eventually went to Australia to search for the team's sniper. This is where the trail ends, as Tavish woke up in Tokyo with no recollection of how he arrived there.

Abilities
Alcoholism: Tavish is almost always drunk, but it hardly reduces his abilities at all.
Bottomless pockets: Not an official ability by any means, but Tavish carries a huge amount of weaponry and money in his pockets. It's best not to question how he does this.
Explosive Expertise: Tavish's most iconic and powerful ability, he uses both a grenade launcher and a stickybomb launcher to blow up anyone or anything that gets in his way. Both of these weapons, as well as the bombs used as ammunition, are homemade by Tavish.
Swordsmanship: Tavish can channel the Eyelander's powers while using it, and he often uses a targe (small shield equipped on the forearm, leaving both hands free) to charge in with reckless abandon to decapitate his foes.

Name: Son Goku
Age: 24
Sex: Male
Height 5' 9"/ 175 CM
Race: Saiyan

Biography
Originally sent to Earth as a baby to kill the entire planet's populace, Goku hit his head and lost all memory of his former mission. From then on, he was raised by his adoptive Grandfather Gohan and trained in martial arts. However, unbeknown to Goku, he actually killed his own grandfather when he transformed into a giant ape by the light of the Full Moon, thanks to his Saiyan monkey tail.

Goku had a natural affinity for fighting, partly due to his Saiyan nature. He ended up on a journey with the teenage girl, Bulma, to search for the seven mystical Dragon Balls which would grant one wish to whomever brought them together. Along the way, he met several friends, including Master Roshi, Yamcha, Ox King, and Chichi, whom Goku agreed to marry despite not knowing what that was.

After foiling the plans of the would be World Emperor Pilaf, Goku trained with Master Roshi and his new friend Krillen to take part in the 21st Tenkaichi Budokai, which he lost in thefinals. Afterward, he would battle the Red Ribbon Army for the Dragon Balls once more. Then, enter the 22nd Tenkaichi Budokai which ended in a final battle with Tien Shinhan which Goku technically lost, though it was more or a tie.

His greatest battle by far was against Demon King Piccolo and his minions. Many perished fighting the monster, including Master Roshi, and even many of his friends thought he had died as well. But, in the end, Goku managed to defeat the Demon King, but not before he sent out one last egg. That of his son.

To combat this new threat, Goku trained with Kami, literally God. During this time, his tail was permanently removed by Kami. His battle with the new Piccolo would come to a close in the 23rd Tenkaichi Budokai where Goku would barely manage to defeat the new Demon. However, rather than slay Piccolo, Goku opted to spare him.

Following the tournament, Goku married ChiChi, who had entered the tournament after it became clear that Goku had forgotten his promise. Together, they had a son, that they named Gohan, after Goku's grandfather. Like Goku, young Gohan had a tail as a half Saiyan.

Five years following the defeat of Piccolo, a new threat, Radditz came to Earth seeking someone he called Kakarot. This turned out to be Goku. Upon revealing Goku's original mission to him, and the fact that they are brothers, Radditz steals Gohan away trying to force him to kill humans. Instead, he teamed up with his greatest enemy Piccolo and they worked together to fight Radditz. It is only due to Gohan's hidden powers, and a desperate sacrifice by Goku that they prevail. But, Radditz revealed that there are two more even more powerful Saiyans who would come for the Dragon Balls.

Not all was lost. Goku was given permission to train with King Kai, the greatest martial arts expert in all the universe. Upon making it to the Kai's planet, the training began.

Traits
Superhuman Strength: Goku can easily lift tons worth of weight. Smashing cars and causing walls to crumble with a single punch is not outside of the realm of possibility.
Superhuman Speed: Goku can move faster than the human eye can see. It's not uncommon for people to mistake multiple punches for a single one.
Superhuman Endurance: Bullets are mere nuisance to him, assuming they could even hit him. Even massive blows from equally powerful foes or being thrown through rock can be shrugged off by him.

Techniques
Kamehameha: Goku's signature move. By placing his hands together, he focuses his energy in one place forming a blue orb of light while chanting the name of the attack. Ending with the syllable "ha", he thrusts his hands forward and unleashes a powerful beam of concentrated energy.
Note: It can be performed one handed and even with the feet. It also does not take a long time to execute.
Solar Flare/Taiyoken: This technique is executed by placing one's hand aside their head. It creates a blinding light that renders foes blind temporarily. Only those with sunglasses and such are unaffected.
After Image: A technique used defensively. It creates a duplicate image of the user to confuse a foe. Little more than an illusion, however.
Kaio-Ken: A powerful technique that greatly boosts Goku's abilities. Can be as little as a 50% boost, but he can increase his power up to four times his base. However, it comes at a price as the increase in power takes a serious toll on the body. He can handle up to a double without much strain.
Spirit Bomb/Genki Dama: This technique requires the user to take small amounts of energy from animals, inanimate objects, and even sentient beings, if they so choose, to form a powerful ball of energy. The energy can be taken from creatures all around the planet and even from other planets. The result can be a small orb about the size of a person's head or a massive sphere. Pure hearted (good) individuals can deflect it. It takes a very long time to form.
Flight: Also, known as Sky Dancing, this technique allows the user to levitate and fly. It seems this is accomplished by supporting one's body with their own energy and lifting themselves up.
Miscellaneous energy manipulation: Goku can use his natural Ki energy to create various attacks, such as simple energy blasts. He can use this to "push" his foes, as well. Even cutting discs are possible.
Energy Sense: The ability to sense the natural Ki energy of living things.
Note: He can not sense the Ki of nonliving things, such as machines. One can suppress their Ki, but not if they are using their power, such as in flight.
Martial Arts: Years of training has turned him into a skilled fighter. He doesn't need a weapon as he is a weapon in his own right.

Address to my fellow RPers
With the above out of the way, I would like to address a few things. While Goku has Superhuman abilities, I will concede that anyone who specializes in those abilities surpasses him. For example, Sonic the Hedgehog would be faster than Goku.

I also may use the English or original Japanese version of some technique names. I'll leave that up for the group to decide.

The following I have no intention to use, as it stands.
Super Saiyan: I specifically choose the Saiyan Saga Goku for balance. Super Saiyan with it's massive power seems like it could break a RP. Currently, I have no plans to have Goku turn Super Saiyan. Now, it could come up in the plot, but no current plans.
Instant Transmission: One, he learns this after the Frieza Saga. Two, this would allow him and others to instantly move to anywhere a foe was. Which could be problematic to plot, especially with his ability to sense energy.
Zenkai: This maybe unfamiliar to some. This is the fan name of the Saiyan trait to recover from near death wounds even stronger. Similar to Super Saiyan this could be very cheap. And frankly, it was a plot device. If used, that's all it would be for me. I'd likely give more lip service to this than anything else.

Bio: An insect of unknown origins and extreme growth rate; it seems to desire anything in its path and assimilate features it deems useful.

Abilities
Biomass & DNA assimilation: A natural and its trademark ability; the bug is able to not only increase its overall mass by consuming biological matter, but also addssimilate traits of the things it consumed, adding them to its own.
-UV vision: Assimilated from various insects, the bug can detect UV rays up to 340nn
-IR detection: Assimilated from the pitviper, the bug can sense thermal radiation between 5 amd 30mm using an organ near its nostrils called the loreal pits.
-Movement calculation & slow-mo vision: Assimilated from the carrion fly, the bug is able to see things moving 300 times faster then itself. Working in tandem with its slow-mo, the bug can accurately calculate where an object will be in less then 1/1000th of a second.
-Acute sense of smell: An amalgamation of traits lead to the bug being able to pick up and differentiate the scents of plants and animals, as well as a wide variety of bacterial and viral diseases a carrier might have, including but not limited to tubercolosis and malaria. It can also smell landmines and other kinds of explosive devices.
-Venom: Assimilated from the green mamba, orb spider and black-tailed scorpion respectively; the bug can deliver a neurotoxin that causes dizziness, nausea, inflamation of the airways, irregular heartbeat, convulsions and complete respitory paralysis.
One that causes dizziness, difficulty breathing, nausea, blurred vision and muscle paralysis and cardiac arrest.
And one that causes severe pain, sweating, tearing, drowsiness, drooping eyelids, loss of muscle coordination, and respitory failure.
-Web weaving: Also assimilated from the orb spider, the bug can weave threads of webbing that are several times the strength of steel.

Prologue: A Brave New World
Tokyo, Japan. 11:53PM

The day was coming to a close, calm and normal. The streets and buildings were lit up by the people at home, and those who were still traveling there. The water in Tokyo Bay was calm, reflecting the moon above.
And then someone divided by zero, and a teensy-weensy hole in reality was torn open. From all across the multiverse, random people disappeared in one place, and appeared in another.

This place, to be specific.

Tokyo, Japan - 11:54PM

For the third time in her, rather short, life Seras found herself in an unfamiliar place. "Not again..." she mumbled to herself as she walked out of an ally. She was at least glad the sun wasn't out, even if she was wearing her casual cloths at the moment. At this point it was getting rather difficult to explain to Sir Integra where she kept going off to suddenly. Seras was at least glad that time seemed to move differently in her home dimension, so she was never gone for that long.

Tokyo, Japan - 11:54PM

Barbas had no idea where he was. Blinking and twitching his woolly tail, he worked to attune his confused senses to the surrounding air. It felt wrong. It didn't smell right and all of the previous sounds, the distant rumbles and cracks of home, were all gone, replaced by an eerie silence. His eyes swiveled down to look at the ground beneath his paw pads. It was flat, smooth and shiny, composed of an obsidian material in which he could see his own puzzled features reflected. He cocked his head upward to the sky, but saw only a series of dazzling white lights. Barbas had seen the night sky before, but this was different; those distant, flickering pinpricks of candlelight had been replaced by surreal parodies that blazed with a disconcerting and inquisitorial glare.

What ploy was this? He had no memory of this place. Not a single thing in it was familiar. The hairs on his back bristled with unease.

OOC: I don't really know how quiet Tokyo ever gets, but I'm guessing it's never dead silent. Just a thought.

Seras started walking around. She wasn't particularly worldly, but she soon figured out she was in Japan. She scratched at her head and looked around for any signs at all that were in English.

A little ways away, a man in a green suit also started walking around. He was Caucasian, and didn't speak Japanese, so he just concerned himself with walking around and whistling.

Seras would struggle to find helpful signs written in English, however some of the signs were written in Roman characters. If she traveled often, she would likely know that hotels would likely have English-speaking staff.

Unfortunately, Seras had rarely been anywhere outside of her native England, so she really didn't know where she should go. She likely wouldn't even be able to recognize a Japanese hotel.

The man in the suit came across Seras and started following her from a distance.

Tokyo, Japan. 11:55PM

Samus Aran woke with a start, lying on her back, staring at the sky through her helmet visor. The HUD winked to life as she came to, her suit booting up from it's emergency activation. She stood, bringing up her Command Visor, attempting to link with her ship.
Code:
!! ERROR: SHIP OUT OF RANGE. !!
!! ERROR: EMERGENCY DISCONNECT DETECTED. 0.417851 SECOND EXPOSURE TO VACCUM DETECTED. VARIA SUIT ACTIVATED AUTOMATICALLY. SUIT FULLY FUNCTIONAL: NO DAMAGE TO USER: SHIP STATUS UNKNOWN. !!
She sighed. Waking up somewhere she didn't know, with no link to her ship and no idea how she arrived there. At least she had firepower. She hefted her arm cannon, walking slowly out of the small dead-end alley she had awoken in, looking around for any signs of where she was.

As Seras stopped and looked around, feeling rather hopeless at the moment. She saw Samus wondering out of an ally. She wasn't big into video games, but Seras was pretty sure she recognized her. She stood and watched to see what she was doing.

The suited man also stopped and tried to look inconspicuous as he watched Samus and Seras.

Samus spotted Seras as she looked around, and quickly turned to face her, arm cannon at the ready. She held her position, not firing but not taking the gun off her.

As Seras and Samus entered their standoff, the sound of straining engine turbines could be heard. If one listened closely, they would notice the sound of 2 engines out of sync, one engine roaring as it tried to meet the pace of the other. this sound would begin echoing through the city, though the vehicle producing the noise would not be seen yet.

Stanley was lost.
This was to be expected, considering Stanley had no idea where he was, or how he really got here, stanley being among the lowest rated employees in his office building, and being regulated to pushing buttons all day.
Oh, and he was fat and lazy, barely doing his job each day, but never realizing just how badly he did his job because he was so stupid.

...

You know, I really hate you?
I had a beautiful future planned for you, and you just had to ruin it. Ruin it constantly. I gave you so many chances to go and make our story beautiful. But you rejected them. Again and again. And now look where we are.

I hope your happy. I really do. Is this what you wanted, Stanley? Is it?

A malnourished Stanley nodded, as he held the piece of Tech, using it to slowly lift him upright, as he dragged it along the ground.

You know, there are people, in this thing. People. Maybe I'll have myself some fun, screw around with their lives. Make them relive their past over and over. Well Stanley? What do you think about that?

Stanley began to exit his Alley, as he looked up towards the night sky, and beginning his exit of the ally.

Before crashing into the bounty hunter, and falling down.

Oh well done, Stanley, well done. You have succeed in Walking, here, have an achievement, or a badge. Oh, yes Stanley, you earned it, you see, by doing the smart thing, and walking into a man in power armor with a missile launcher. Well done, I applaud you. Now- What was that noise?

Stanley heard a noise, and, using the odd USB as a cane, began to get up. I said, used the USB as a cane, to get up. There. Now, he began to exit the alley, away from the death machine, and looked around for the source of the sound.

Seras slowly put her hands in the air as Samus pointed her cannon in her direction. "E-ello..." she said with a rather nervous smile, rather oblivious to the other things happening around due to her potentially imminent demise.

Roffe, however, was making sure to take everything in including the engine sounds and the person talking to themselves and bumping into Samus.

Samus was jostled slightly as Stanley walked into her, her attention and weapon immediately swivelling to the man. She looked up a little as she heard the engine, but kept the gun trained on Stanley.

OoC: Sorry, but I gotta go for a little while. GMs, feel free to godmod, as long as Samus doesn't shoot or speak.

The noise of the engines roaring grew louder, along with the increasing desynchronization between the two engines. The sound would begin to echo off the buildings, increasing in magnitude rapidly.

Engine 2 failing, probably defect caused by .87 caliber round from nearby anti vessel station. crew capacity at 7.14 percent, ammunition reserves at 72.7 percent, fuel at 92 percent. probable temporary loss of position, have been relocated over major city. Locate causeway, perform emergency landing, assess damage. Plan of action determined. initiating.

Stanley stopped moving, which was the smart thing to do because someone was pointing a gun at his back. Stanley listened to what the narrator said, when he said to hold his hand up as a gesture of peac-

Stanley held his Stick in hand, holding it like a sword.

STANLEY!? Stanley, put me down. Now, please, I'd rather not have you killed.

Stanley stared at the bounty hunter, before hearing the young woman try to diffuse the situation.

Stanley immediately slapped the woman for interrupting this standoff, which could have become very entertaining.

Stanley didn't move.

the noise crescendoed with the arrival of the strange military aircraft screeching over the buildings, performing a sharp turn with its starboard engine aflame. The aircraft, in its bank, nearly slammed into one of the residential structures, narrowly avoiding damage, and slowed quickly, both engines winding down as it flew to the ground. it landed between Samus and Seras with an audible crunch as machinery met concrete, performed a mild skid, and slid to a halt. It rested their, smoke wisping from its engine, the sound of the black armor on the vessel cooling in place of its previous roars.

Landing performance satisfactory. note a 1 percent loss in fuel. City appears uninhabited by enemy units. secure egress equipment #4, clear line of sight with heavy bolter, move to examine engine 2.
