Yes we defend our video games tooth and nail from the media. Band together to fight that monster but where we truly falter is in our own community... ONLINE GAMING. If you haven't told from the writing I am 14, I play online I am a good team player, I follow instructions to the T, but when I use my mic I am met with such hate towards myself. OH I SEE the tone of my voice is what matters not the fact that I am a good player, I don't TK no, no, no, It's the voice yes I understand we kids can be pricks online but not all of us. You stereotype us as you stereotype nerds, gangsters and women you hate us because we are young. Granted we are young but what would you rather have a good 14 year old or a TKing asshole who is 25, 30 or whatever. Some of you greet us with open arms in games, you don't care as long as we play by the rules but others can hate us, they can be as cruel as any asshole child on xbox live. Why this sickens me, people like me are the next generation of gamers why seclude us? You only send us into there camp and have more problems for yourself. If we are being dicks fine but if not let us in on the strategy and make us feel welcome.

Think back have YOU done this for those who are welcoming of us good gamers then thank you

I am sure people are going to get up in arms over this, but I have counted so far on the PC and xbox I have been in. 500 servers that when I use my mic I get hated on. I am sure the escapist community isn't so bad but I want you to think about this.

Seriously, the voice is all that I can't stand. When you hit puberty and your voice goes down a few octaves you won't get any more grief.

There are lots of other kids that play, maybe find a good site to link up with kids in your age bracket then go slaughter a bunch of us old codgers while you all giggle in excrutiatingly high octaves.

I'm afraid I have trouble understanding your post, but from what I can gleam I believe that we are on the same metaphorical boat. To avoid being mocked in the future, I recommend commiting the Webster dictionary to memory, lowering your voice's pitch by two octaves, and speaking in a perfectly neutral accent. If all else fails, put your money where your mouth is and excercise your apparently notable abilities. In my experience, nothing quiets dissenters like a peace talk at muzzle velocity.

Also, for the record, this site was probably the wrong place to post this topic, given that the forum consists of 85% trained assholes, 12% militant athiests, 2.6% broken bitter bastards, and .4% decent people.

Just don't use the microphone for about 4 more years or so, I can't imagine it's that hard. I never use the microphone in public matches for that very reason.

Christ could you lot be any more harsh to this poor chap? He claims to be above the norm of teenage idiots who inhabit online gaming with their crass behaviour and language so why not cut him a break? So he's got a high pitched voice..meaning? A guy playing a music system in the background is annoying. An idiot who's talking to other people in the room who has left their headset on and not using it to talk to anybody in the game is silly.

The idiots who do nothing but cuss, swear and generally make a bleep out of themselves, there is your real problem right there. Young or old, come into the realm of online gaming with a smart head on your shoulders and you should be welcomed regardless of voice and other such frivolous things

I've met a few teenagers online who are genuinely polite and well mannered in their ass kicking and don't stoop to derogatory name calling.

If you are a good team player mate as you say you are then good on you. Team work in online games as of late I find is in decline as it seems to be everyone for themselves lately.

I had a long post going in here, but my computer lost it, so here's a shorter one.

The thing is, if the games you are playing (which I'm guessing they are) are MW2, Gears or L4D then I'm sorry, but you shouldn't be there. That's of course no excuse to open up on someone - if it's just the tone of someones voice that annoys me, I'll just mute them - problem solved.

I find it's often the squeaky voiced kids that are quickest to open up with the hackneyed insults - imagine the following said in a really nasally English accent - ("Are you Scottish? Are you Scottish? You skirt wearing prick! Do you like a roll and sausage?") and the like. Not that the older, but often no more mature, gamers are not prone to the same behaviour.

So basically, if you are a kid showing up in game like COD, I'm afraid hostility is going to be coming your way. Just the way things are really. The best solution for now is really just for people to mute everyone they don't want to hear.

I almost never go into any type of matchmaking unless I'm in a party chat with some friends though (xbox live obviously).

Well what do you expect? It's the bloody internet, what little manners people have in everyday life is restrained and chained up in a basement. In a couple of years you'll see that people is still bashing you; by then you'll probably have understood that people are generaly just dirtbags - especially when there's no risk of getting punched in the face by the people you offend.

Besides you can't really blame others for using stereotypes. Without setting stadards and using simple/few words in order to describe them everything would be unecessary complicated. Just as we categorize the different human races as negroid/caucasian or mongolic we categorize 14yo in our(you know, we, the target audience) internet games with equivlantly short terms. You may differ from your fellow shitkids on the internet, but you'd be the exception rather than the rule. You're not doing yourself any good by claiming to be a good gamer.
