I think the title says it all (and there were similar topics), but, my love for the Homeworld games made me share this video here... :D I hope you fellow gamers will understand. On behalf of the cause (that we have established up on Facebook and have already created several petitions etc.), or if you're a HW fan or just curious, be sure to check the following "We Want Homeworld 3" video made by our awesome member Anton Kassimov!

If this won't give you goosebumps, I don't know what will... You can find more info about our group just below the video, or just click here [https://www.facebook.com/groups/wewanthomeworld3/]. :) Everyone's welcome...

And the question of the day: Could Homeworld 3 get made by using Kickstarter? What do you think? Are there any other alternatives ways the franchise could be resurrected? :)

p.s. There is always hope... Those IP rights tucked away safely in THQ's warm, cosy lap sure mean the franchise isn't quite planned to go to waste. More like, it's like an egg. When will it, if at all, break from its shell?

It's a nice video, but I think a Homeworld 3 would require more resources than even a very successful Kickstarter would be able to provide. And I question whether Homeworld was an accessible enough game to bring in an audience large enough that a studio would be willing to bankroll it.

Good points, but I for one don't expect a third installment of the HW franchise to be as "inaccessible" as the previous two were. Although, mind you, I found all HW games (Cataclysm too) very intuitive to play, very easy... It is a challenge if you want to straight up fight in skirmish or online, but given the helpful tutorial and the gradual challenges that the missions provide... Not hard at all. The controls are a bit unorthodox, but (IMO) the learning curve is far from steep... Just rotating with the mouse and wrapping one's brain around full 4D. Or 3D. Because a ship could be ordered to go literally anywhere! Hence the tactical depth the series has...

That being said, if THQ/Relic decide on putting out a Third, I think they would largely improve on the accessibility and some of the gameplay mechanics.

Never really liked much about the Homeworld games. They were just logistics exercises. Make lots of whatever ship kills whatever the enemy has. Steamroll enemy. Rinse and repeat.

But, y'know, damn if they didn't have an awesome sense of scale. It's the only series that made space feel all majestic and cold and ball-shrivelingly huge.

If they could make a Homeworld 3 that preserved that atmosphere while fleshing out the setting properly (admittedly, rather hard to do in a RTS) then I'd buy it, boring gameplay and all.

Don't see it happening any time soon though. It's not really a big name and the developers are currently fully engaged with churning out WH40K licensed stuff.

I wish THQ didn't tease us for years, they spent so much time and money getting the homeworld license back, and then they claimed they would do something with it, but then NOTHING.

I need Homeworld 3.
