Magnificently wonderful work. Had me cracking up. I absolutely love comics where even 2D characters can convey emotions, make me able to step into the character's shoes; and in the case of the AoT beards, there was an overwhelming emotion of total "WTF???"ness being sent out. Absolutely wonderful.
It seems the AoT one is getting all the praise, and I'm not saying that's bad, but I think I'll remark on each of the others for their own merits:
Page 1:
A fantastic introduction to the character of Erin and her world. It shows her as someone who can be deep when she needs to, but has that Holy Grail of webcomic qualities: the ability to drop everything and become the comic relief. That Erin can become the comic relief to her own character is a wonderful piece of ingenuity.
Page 2:
Truly shows that you can be humorous, retain the character, and still comment on gaming affairs. And since the Escapist is a gaming website, that is an excellent quality for a comic to have. Well done on that count.
Page 3:
The wonderful Army of Two comic. As Shamus Young has already said, it is a fantastically well made, 10-panel glory-fest. The initial witty banter, leading into an insane exaggeration of an in-game situation, on to the aforementioned relatable emotions, to the final kicker: the Beards. Combined with the "WTF???" expression on both characters' faces, the beards very literally made me fall off my seat laughing; the first time that's happened in over 4 years. I take my hat off to you for that.
Finally, Page 4:
More commentary on the gaming industry, but this time centred around the criticisms each of the major gaming devices' manufacturers. Though a much more general commentary than Page 2, it really shows how much potential this comic has. If you can squeeze that much humour and commentary out of 5 measly panels in an introduction comic, I can't wait to see what you're capable of with an entire comic at your fingertips.
In all, a truly amazing example of everything a gaming webcomic SHOULD be. It's easy for me to see why this was the winner, and I look forward to seeing more as time goes on.
