Is it possible for this site to enable webms? Webms are better quality, less in size and much easier to make yourself than ordinary gifs. We used to have it over at GT (RIP) and it was a very nice feature to have.
Or is this site stuck as it is until the day it dies?

As people have already stated, seeing how the entire Tech Team got fired a while ago I would say that you're out of luck in that department.
However I am currently working on a browser add-on to try and enhance the experience on the Escapist a little bit, I could splice in support for a WebM BB tag, but only people with the add-on would be able to actually see the little videos, which needn't be a problem. Current target browsers are Firefox, Chrome and Edge, more about the add-on to be announced on a later date though, although there's a thread about it in the Wild West if interested.

Just hit me up with a description of how you would like the WebM's to work, auto-loop or not, auto-play or not, etc, and I'll look into implementing it into the add-on.
