Anime fans and everyone else all know who these douchebags are. I am not foremost an anime fan, but that does not mean I dislike the genre. No, what I dislike is the Weeaboo. These are the bastards that dedicate every waking moment of their life to anime, past the Otaku level of obsession, and into outright denial.

When non fans, or ambivalent viewers like myself get pissed off at anime, almost all the time it is because of a Weeaboo. Weeaboos are the ones who will go to any length to defend anime, and yet decry anything else as shit. They are so far into denial that they are willing to make up blatant lies regarding alternative forms of animation.

If anime wants to be accepted as an art form by anime haters, then the fandom needs to do a major cleanup of Weeaboos. They ruin the image of your fandom, and in a world so used to mass generalization, their actions appear to reflect on the anime culture as a whole.

Wait, you mean there's a group of people who like a thing that make the other people who like that thing embarrassed because this group of people is really annoying about how they like it?

Why does this scenario sound familiar...?

Everyone hates weeaboos. They're annoying to people that don't like anime, and people that do. They just need to be "cleaned up" in general.

No.

They're not our problem. We have no authority over them, obnoxiousness always rises to the forefront of anything, and it would make basically no difference anyway. We already ignore them, non-anime fans can jolly well do the same.

Sounds like Microsoft and Sony fanboys. Except the difference I perceive between the console war and weeaboos is that everyone is involved in the console war, whereas Weeaboos are generally considered the stereotypical anime fan in North America

I have a few friends that are, or at least were, like this. I'm not too sure if the one is still like that, though she has gone down a similar valley with pot. The other still wacthes anime, but it's gone from obsessing over Japan to Death Note and Hetalia. Thing is, she's one of... those people who write the interesting fanfics that are forever burned into your skull.

I believe you were thinking about every single human interest in the history of mankind.

I am a huge anime fan, have been since I was younger than 10. My friends all know of this interest, but other than them I don't really ever mention it. No one else cares. I don't try to keep it as a terrible secret but its generally not worth bringing up in conversation.

I don't think something is superior because its anime, there are western animated things, and live action things from all across the world I enjoy. I don't throw in the Japanese I've picked up in every day conversation, it doesn't impress people, just makes you seem weird.

Weaboos embarrass all anime watchers because of they way they act.
Sony Fanboys embarrass all Sony users because of the way they act.
Microsoft Fanboys embarrass all Microsoft users because of the way they act.
Loud, annoying 12 year olds embarrass all 12 year olds who play online because of the way they act.
Twilight fangirls embarrass the less-fanatical fans because of the way they act.
Mac fanboys embarrass Mac users because of the way they act.

Apply it to anything and the outcome is the same. This is not an isolated condition. You know what rational people do when they find the thing they like is 'weighted down' by the fan base? They ignore them and enjoy whatever it is they want to enjoy regardless. Who the hell cares what other people think about your hobby? Who the hell cares if it's respected or not? Watch it, enjoy it, and fuck all else, or do you require mainstream approval before you can enjoy something?

Hi, history lesson.

http://www.pbfcomics.com/?cid=PBF071-Weeaboo.gif

That is the source of "weeabo." It has zero connection to "wapanese." Who are the people you're talking about. Wannabe japanese.

The reason it is now permanently lodged in the internet consciousness is because wapanese was wordfiltered to weeabo in reference to that comic on 4chan/b/.

The logic: ITS A WAPANESE SITE BY NATURE. Complaining about the wapanese on 4chan was like walking around going "FUCKING MORON LIBERALS" as a democrat at the democratic national convention.

That is all.

Those words coming from that chipmunk voice genuinely shocked me.

Off topic: Love the Disgaea 4 avy. Saw the Japanese trailer yesterday.

On topic: I'd never heard of that term till I came here (but I am over 30 and not up on all lingo). I think some guy randomly called me that once in a PM which got him suspended indefinitely. I do enjoy some (not all) anime, but am nowhere near Weeaboo levels. I don't think I'm even at so-called Otaku levels. RPGs on the other hand....

I like how this thread has changed into a "Point out that weeaboo's exist in everything as the 'fanbois' and not a 'How can we fix this problem with in our society' thread :p

Wonderful, ain't it? It gives me yet another reason to buy a PS3. Now if only I had money...

You're welcome!

The fact that there's a type of 'weeaboo' for everything ever is incredibly relevant, though. You can't eliminate a pest that has shown that it naturally occurs everywhere. Instead of worrying and wasting your time on trying to fix a problem that can't be fixed, why not enjoy what you can and ignore the annoyances?

They don't bother me too much, they buy loads of anime products which makes more anime come out in English...win for me.

Complaining about 'weeaboos' is kind of like complaining about hardcore inbreed NASCAR and sports fans...they exist so the industry can make money and make more crap to sale.

Well the point is that you can't do anything about it. There will always be fanboys, there is no solution outside of making it illegal to like things. I can guarantee you there were prehistoric people starting fights over the right way to start a fire or sharpen a stick. In fact if you go camping you'll generally get at least one guy doing that to this day.

No, I detailed how a bunch of morons got used to using the word to mean 'wapanese,' and thus infected other morons with the definition.

Basic memetics.

The word is wapanese. Weeaboo was just a word filter.

"Wah! The definition of words change over time!"

Are you going to complain about how 'gay' no longer means 'happy' and how 'retard' is now practically synonymous with 'stupid' now?

There's really no need to argue over semantics with two words that mean the same thing.
