Things that scare you. Also things that scare you, even though you think they shouldn't.
(A topic done to death, I am sure.)
I am scared of the dark and whatever is or isn't, lurking within. I know it sounds childish and silly for some, but, my husband works nights and I am in the house by myself (& my active imagination) and the house is older with vaulted ceilings. It makes noises when it settles. It always seems to want to settle right when I am dozing off. I then sit up and think, "What the fudge was that, and is it trying to kill me?!" I try to gauge the sounds by my dogs. They bark if there are people that they think are far too close to the house, but, don't even twitch an ear at other noises. If I am scared enough, I just, stay up and that really starts messing with my schedule. I try to read my books, listen to music, watch a slow movie, or...don't judge me...use a nightlight; that's in the shape of the Leg-Lamp from 'The Christmas Story'. A present from my aunt-in-law.
Secondly, and this is the very weird one, I don't like when people touch my belly button. Occasionally, I've had people playfully poke me in the stomach and accidentally poke the belly button, to which I nearly lose it. As a child I feared that if someone were to poke it the wrong way, or if it were touched too hard, that it would unravel and all my insides would be outside. It's bizarre I know, but, a portion of that fear carried over into my adult life, for some unknown reason. My husband takes full advantage of it at times, and gets a laugh or two watching me flail my arms at him when he pretends to be ready to stab my stomach with his index finger.
So Escapists, what are your weird and/or silly fears?
