DEAR GOD THIS GAME! Jesus, after a struggling with getting a download that worked (and for some reason the menu didn't work) I played the game and the entire time I was a nervous wreck. I didn't run into Slenderman for around ten minutes but I was practically shitting my pants each time I looked around a wall. I started collecting the papers and then the music started picking up, which made me even more of a paranoid wreck. I saw Slenderman out of the corner of my eye once but managed to get away, a massive drumbeat made me jump like Hell, and then when I got the fourth page, a burst of static filled my screen like Slenderman was actually there. It was at that point that I slammed down on the esc key, exited the game and turned all the lights in the house on. I'm just not brave enough to play that game...shut up.

So...what were your experiences with that game?

I downloaded it, started playing, the creepy music started, I realized that this whole thing was just setting up a huge jumpscare, did this maneuver:

turned it off, and never played it again.

I found it pretty boring actually. I started it up and started collecting pages, sometimes seeing some movement in the distance but I knew what it was. Anyway, on the fifth page I think he got close to me and the visual cue just wasnt scary for me. I ran off and eventually found the next page when he caught up to me again and the game ended.

Overall I felt pretty bored with it. To improve it I think they should remove the visual cues and make it a more subtle audio cue. Whispers, footsteps, or just something more subtle, something that you could even confuse for what you're doing would go along way toward adding some tension to the game. The situation doesnt help either, Ive forgotten why we were there (assuming it explained). If it was an actual situation like a survival situation then I think it would add more personality to the game

I think the horror factor may come from this made up mythos itself but honestly knowing that its fiction just makes it even less interesting. Even though its arguable that Slender man was based off of a legend of some kind of Fey it doesnt diminish that hes not scary because we know hes made up while that legend could have been based off of personal experiences or made up around a camp fire. lack of ambiguity is the problem I think

Im starting to wonder if i've lost my soul or something :/ All these "good" horror games (slender, amnesia etc) Just raise a meh from me. Sure jump scares get you every time but you cant really help that. Nothing that stays with you after you turn the game off.

My first time playing was the scariest and from then on it was rather boring. My immersion was killed when I saw how terribly modeled the Slenderman was, not nearly slender or tall enough. It's rather petty but I suppose I know the monster too well.

Oh cmon it's a pretty decent indie game.

OT: I love scary games where you have to muster your courage and defeat monsters. I need to find me more horrors.

You know how horror is at it's best when you don't know what's coming for you? It only uses jump scares, nothing psyological. Graphics are appalling. The way you die is awful. The "find all the pages" objective is pointless and doesn't give you any reason to play. "Oh, I'm being chased by a supernatural monster, better find all the pages!". It needs a better objective like "Find your lost daughter" or even just "find the tools you need to escape".

Slenderman is an awful game. I don't know why it's got the exposure it has. I suppose because it uses a meme.

I like Slender, it's a nice little well made game. It's very eerie and the atmosphere is good, but when you get down to it, it's all just a huge jump scare. I mean, it's still quite fun to play with a few friends, but it just isn't that scary. Or not what I class as scary anyway.

I was sufficiently freaked out by the tense atmosphere once you start collecting pages and I will admit, I nope'd out of the game before Slender Man even got a chance to creep his slithery tendrils around my neck. I loved it! I get my kicks out of adrenaline like that.

Exactly this. It's really only gotten popular because pewdiepie played it and did some fake screaming while playing it.

Plus, it doesn't even do the slenderman mythos any justice. In the game, slenderman just follows you. You don't see any of the weird and scary shit that slenderman actually does in the slenderman videos..

If your "immersion" was killed by that, you were never immersed.

You're both acting like Slender was supposed to be a fully-developed game in the first place. It's a small alpha stage game someone probably whipped up because they were bored. Sure, it's gathered a lot of attention because of pewdiepie and others but that's not relevant to the game itself. For what it is--a FREE alpha-stage game--it could use improvements, like a better objective that guides the character as mentioned and the scare does get old after you've played it more than once. It's just like any other horror-themed medium. You're either scared or you aren't. Some people can't deal with jump scares and others can sit through it like nothing happened. I happen to be the former but that doesn't mean my capacity to immerse myself in horror is minimal. Mindfuck games like Silent Hill scare the hell out of me but I love that series to bits.

If anything, at least Slender has exposed a lot more of the Internet to Slender Man which is always great because it's a fantastic concept.

People sang their high praises for Cry of Fear and it bored me to tears. The combat was minimal and repetitive; the enemies were not varied at all (they weren't even scary); whatever "scary" atmosphere the developers were going for just did not exist; and lastly, the scares were pretty cheap. But again, it's a free mod so I can take it or leave it without feeling like I was cheated out of something--other than my time, of course. It bothers me a bit that it's supposedly been Greenlit for Steam and will possibly cost money. Neither game should cost money at the point in which they exist right now.

Never played it myself but it looks perfectly acceptable and quite funny watching reactions, i'm just too lazy to download it myself.

For a free game someone made I think it's quite good, certainly a good idea.

You think Slender is a jump scare game? Then you haven't played Survivor!

(PS, that is not me XD)

OT: I played Slender after learning about it, so it wasn't really scary until I was killed. It's a fun game though.

havent played it yet, but is it anything close to the first RE in terms of creepiness?
