Hi......

*sigh* so upon opening up my beloved laptop and doing the morning rounds through escapist I just watched Moviebobs look at PC gaming....

is it true? have I just been kidding myself here? I remeber when I had a wii, I was in denial about how cool it was, and now I know that the wii is a piece of duster gathering junk compared to a ps2

I mean as I said in the comments sure the big clunky box desktop is going out of style, but what about Laptops? arnt they getting more powerful? hell I use a laptop

I dont know...I dont agree with everything the guy says but but mabye By trying to rationalize all this I am in denial

ah well other than that I juat read a reveiw for homefront....shame It dosnt seem bad but I had such high hopes for that game

oh and all the see is Dragon age 2 Dragon age 2 Dragon age 2 a game which I really want but cant afford right now...oh and havnt even finished DA 1 because its so hard...and then the expansion

I think somtimes I worry more about gaming itself than playing actual games

Im going to go do somthign productive now...

Movie Bob tried to compare Halo to fascism. He's hardly a credible source. The Escapist only gives him two shows because his ridiculous opinions attract attention.

Moviebob is not a god, he's just a guy on the internet with an ego. He's allowed to be completely wrong one time in his life. I'm not letting it get to me, I know PC gaming is doing better than ever and I don't need him to tell me any different.

Also, he's speculating about fairly long-term social trends there. Even if it plays out exactly as he says and the pc is set to become a dinosaur, and owning one will be equivalent to owning a typewriter now, it would probably take at least a good 10 years or so. In the meantime, I play pc games because I never bought a tv when I left my parents' place, and my 360 died a year or so later anyway.

EDIT: Also, Diablo 3.

All I can say is my gut says "maybe".

Sorry, couldn't resist a chance for a semi-relevant Futerama quote. Basically, MovieBob was talking very long term. Ipads and Ipods are still relatively new, and we can only speculate when, or if, they can be directly compared to PC.

He is right about a single computer becoming less necesary as other products take over its job--soon, it may be nothing more than a high tech type writer...eventually, pads might replace that as well (I'm not familiar with their capabilities, so they could already have that function and I'm just ignorant). My bet, however, is that it will be awhile before the iproducts and similar machines will have the "new" PC games.

It's not dead...it's not dying. It's changing, just as consoles and handhelds are changing.

Well he made some interesting points, especially about consoles just being limited PC's.

I see it going the other way though. I can take my PC, plug it into my TV and connect a controller; enabling me to play like I would on a console, with much higher quality graphics.

If anything, in my mind, we will end up with a hugely powerful PC sitting somewhere in the house that is connected to all the screens in the house, so that we can use it to do anything, anywhere.

I saw this thread and my first thought was "If the names "Nintendo" and "Mojang" are involved, I will HUNT YOU DOWN."

But you didn't, so you're safe. For now.

Anyways, you're psyching yourself out. PC desktop gaming isn't going to die while all games are being made ON PCS.

WHICH THEY ARE.

Especially considering the writhing mass of cash and snobbery that is the "enthusiast" crowd.

Well he never mentioned Steam. I have an ipad and SC2 and DoW2:R don't really...you know play on that. So until my phone has the hardware to compete with my top of the line gaming comp then, I'll keep having one. Also a large segment of the population is still using XP and older.

Also cheap as email/facebook/youtube comps only cost 100-200 bucks and CRT monitors are free basically so...well its almost nearly expensive too pay for one or two months of a data package and service on an evo or iphone.

Costs still have the desktop around for along time, but the death HAS started its just gunna be a bit down the road, ie Moviebob jumping the gun just a decade or so two early.

TL;DR: Steam

MovieBob has his own opinion, let him be. Everyone is entitled to it.

What I don't like about him is his style of reviewing something, usually with a follow up, the Troll Baiting spree's he goes on usually knowing full well a video will generate controversy.

I'm not against it per say, but it's very cheap. Yahtzee does his own thing, and he is drenched in insult humor, but MovieBob goes the extra mile to essentially telling the viewer that:

"He's opinion is X,Y,Z"
"He doesn't care if you agree or not"
"He brings in backup statements"
"Goes on an analytical subject"
"Express his opinion again"
"Tell he doesn't care about other views"
"One last quick snip of research"
"Dilutes the final words to be fair"
"Close off with a Jades Trick"

I'm sorry, as much as I love MovieBob, his blatant suck-sick-punch baiting videos are getting old...I just sometimes wish his Movie Reviews go back to ACTUALLY reviewing the movie instead of being a full blown philosophical study (something he could do very well in TBP) and his first few TBP's were actually decent as they studied the media, rather then a Soap-on-Box crazy rant of what he believes.

You seriously believed what MovieBob said? Ahahahaha. In the very long term, perhaps, traditional PC set-ups will die out, but everything is evolving, as every other piece of technology becomes more and more like a real PC instead of being a cut-down version. Once the iPad37 allows you to do everything a traditional PC can, then it's a PC.

Don't get your panties in a bunch. It's all for attention anyways.

If you find yourself worrying about gaming in general, get away from the internet and magazines and whatnot, go play some games. Have fun.
that, my freind is an excellent Idea and I will

Yeha I do tent to have thease episodes of worrying about game, then I get over it, I think its also because of all the spare time I have right now being out of work and all
