Basically all of Puerto Rico (where I live) is now complete without electricty (i am running a generators and its a miracle my internet functions still)

All because fire happened at a power plant that apparently powers the whole island. Some saying its the stormy rainy weather, others saying its sabatoge, I don't know, government says a minimum they can restore power in 4 hours but I doubt it, at longest I give a week plus change.

So I won't be using the net for awhile if circumstances continue. Oh well mabye now I can read those tolkien books I have been neglecting.

Don't sweat it too badly. Hopefully the facility will get fixed relatively quickly and you guys will get your power back soon.

On the other hand, perhaps Sauron is just making a power play against Puerto Rico. Watch out for orcs crossing the bay at night! :D

I still have horrid memories of two weeks of no power during Hurricane Sandy. Im never one to take a government for its word, but I hope they are right.

Wow! Two weeks! That would've been terrible. I had mine knocked out for 4 days due to an ice storm and I thought that was bad. It was kind of nice grilling out for every meal, though.

Yeah, had that same problem for the entire northern half of my state (Alabama), several years ago when a massive tornado cell came through and fucked the power grid. Were out of power for a week.

This is one of the reasons to love living in Finland: one of the world's best functioning infrastructures with no hurricanes, earthquakes, typhoons, or regular extreme storms to fuck with it.

Didnt help that I was working my first ever job...and it was retail, and I have anxiety issues. So Id go to a job I hated that stressed me out to no end, to return to a dark house with nothing to de-stress with.

Atleast we didnt get flooded though.

That's the worst. I went through that in 1993. All you need is barely a quarter inch of water in the house and it seeps right up the walls and ruins everything. I actually prefer tornadoes to floods. You have to be directly in the path of a tornado to get any significant damage. Floods are an AOE.

On topic: I remember reading by candle light and playing strictly accoustic guitar during that ice storm. I couldn't go to work the first two days because people were sliding off the road.

The basement is a hangout/entertainment area, so ya know, all my expensive devices and systems are there. My family says they want to be more prepared next time, but that is debatable.

Most of my hobbies and interests require power. I did manage to read an entire book during thse two weeks, but I am honestly not too fond of reading books. (I much prefer reading wikipedia, usually history pages) I think its because I get distracted too easily.

Yikes that's rough. Sandy knocked out my power for 3 days and I thought that was bad enough. I actually had to call out of class at Rutgers because I couldn't get gas for my car. The stations didn't have any left.

I remember sitting on a long ass line (of cars) with my grandfather to get gas. We matched MASH on a tiny portable TV then tried Five Guys for the first time cause we wanted a cooked meal. I dont like their fries.

While I think Five Guys is pretty overrated their cajun fries are excellent and much better than the regular ones. They've got a spicy seasoning that's on another level.

I was working at one of the few gas stations that had gas during Sandy, shit got rough. Eventually we had to have a cop park right next to one of out closed off exits just to keep people from trying to throttle each other, or us station attendants.

OT: Good luck OP! I'm sure it's nothing to worry about. Just relax and try your best to have a good time.

Clearly you have not seen my rant of Guardians of the Galaxy.

But on topic...sigh the whole situation just makes me understand why so many left to America or other rich nations for opportunity.

Dawn of Justice, Suicide Squad and Adam West Batman were 3 recent examples.

And it says you live in Puerto Rico, so you're a US citizen already. Just gotta be willing to move to a state to have the full effect.

I have lived in the states before. 2 times both in relation to the fact my Mother joined the US army so she brought me with her whilw I was still a toddler and I stayed in army neighbourhoods, heck one time my mother was gonna take me to Germany but certain situations canceled that plan.

i remember being a child during a major ice storm where i live (in january '98, so i was 8 years old). my family's house lost power, and we ended up staying at a hotel (and with family friends i think, at least briefly) until power returned to our house.

it was pretty exciting for a little kid, honestly. i wouldn't want to go through that nowadays though. i rely too heavily on tech that requires power.
