So SE has been flailing around with excuses about there being no FFVII remake in recent weeks, but what about FFVI? When's it gonna get it's DS remake like with FF3, FF4, and CT? I think it more than deserves it, and considering how well FFIV DS was done, I'd certainly trust SE to handle FFVI the same way.

FF 5 deserves a remake more. That said, 2D sprites age much better than 3D, so sprite games need remakes less than old 3D games.

I wonder that as well, since I often make the point that FFVII is really the same game. VII was my first, but VI is my favorite.

A remake is for a game that needs one. FFVI is perfect as is and does not need a remake.

FFT needed a remake because it was poorly translated and had a few balance issues.

FFIV was pretty much perfect (though horrible ported to the GBA) but its remake was horrible.

I don't see why the FF fans want a FFVII remake because if their game is so perfect a new coating of paint on it would just be a waste of everyone's time because they could always just go back to the original one and it would be the same damn game. a remake should have something extra to it or there is no point in making it but adding something extra to FFVII will piss them off.

I can't think of many things I disagree with more, or can I even remotely fathom your reasoning behind it.

FFV was a lousy game, but a remake could make it playable, at least, but I don't trust them to successfully allow you to actually take more than one skill into battle, with FF3's "no save points" flaw setting the precedent.

FFVI has plenty that could have been done better, not to mention the game really deserves at least as much as goddamn FF3. General Leo, for example, did not seem as fleshed out as he should have been, similar to Golbez before the FFIV remake. The magicite interface and swapping could be improved, better drama in the world of ruin, improved strategy battles, etc.

The only bad things with updates, is they tend to redo some levels, remove and add stuff, and just do some things that ruin the game completely. Perfect example being MGS and then The Twin Snakes that came out for Game Cube. If they just updated the Graphics, woulda probably been not as bad. But I'm for remaking the other Final Fantasys, just if there done right.

FFVI should be remade only if they decide to put in a villain that is more threatening than Kefka.

That game made me feel like I was spending my time building up a nuclear arsenal in order to take down Corky from Life Goes On. I was completely shocked that he actually did turn out to be the ultimate enemy in that game. How pathetic.

I.E. more fanservice?

It's become popular to bash FFVII for the same reason that it's popular to bash Twilight, because of the utter absurdity of some portion of it's obnoxious fan base. My wife forced me to read Twilight, not because she thought it was great, but because it amused her (she reads about 150 books a year I think... not an exaggeration) and I have no problem admitting that I thought it was cute, if annoyingly emo... a good book for pre-teens.

It's the same with FFVII. I thought it was an outstanding game for what it was, in the time that it was released. I still think Sephiroth is a great bad guy because he actually made me hate him. I didn't mind Cloud anywhere near as much as I hated Zidane, Tidus, and Vaan.

FFVII is hated because it has a rabid fanbase that can't shut up about it. That doesn't change the fact that it actually was a pretty damned good game, especially for being only about the 4th tolerable JRPG that was released in the US on the PS1 (Arc the Lad? Suikoden and Persona come to mind at the time...). It revived the genre for Americans, and I'm glad for that.

That said, I wouldn't mind a remake, but I'd much rather see Square devote some more time and effort to new games, perhaps NOT a FF game (what was wrong with branching out and making something new like they did with Parasite Eve?) rather than sucking the teat that is their previously established games.

And stop making douchy pre-teen emo boys as your main characters, for god's sake.

I stand against remakes in all forms. You know what, all of the Final Fantasy games could have been better, down to the last game. There is no such thing as perfection.
But if all we do is remake the old games in the belief that we can make them better, then how are we different from George Lucas? There comes a time when you have to put the project you're working on, declare it finished and move on.
Preferably after the first release.

[This may contain spoilers, that being said, if you've never played the game before, you probably deserve it by now]

Okay, I always get sh*t for this but I think Final Fantasy VI is probably the single most complete game ever made; and happens to be my favorite of all time.

IF they decide to treat it with a remake, they need to do EVERYTHING and I mean EVERYTHING right. Leave in options for Japanese voice overs, include everything and anything you add better not change plot or screw up characters. The problem with this kind of undertaking is that most of the team that created the original masterpiece is either gone or may not be interested in redoing it. That being said here's a list of demands (since I'm so important) that must be met:

- No DS nonsense, give it a proper heavyweight next gen system
- Sakaguchi must come back and oversee the entire project personally
- Yoshitaka Aamano must come back to oversee any updated character designs
- If it will be dubbed it must have professional U.S. voice actors, if anyone sounds anything remotely like Tidus I will fly to Vancouver myself and heads will roll
- It MUST include the option for Japanese voiceovers with subtitles
- Nobuo Uematsu must come back to redo the orchestrations of the music
- DO NOT strip the humor out of this game or I will ___ someone in the ___
- All playable stuff must be playable, I want to talk to soldiers at Vector before the banquet, I want to choose Celes' lines during the opera, etc. DO NOT REPLACE PLAYABLE SH*T WITH CUTSCENES! >.<
- Do not do stupid sh*t like bring General Leo back to life with some special potion, he's dead, it made you care about the game, get over it
- Do not stuff in unnecessary back-story and exposition where it is not needed, Umaro is a Yeti, that's it... deal
- Espers are not Aeons, Magicite is not Materia, I'll allow as much as correcting appropriate things that were done incorrectly in the US version but do not change sh*t around to be cool and new (I'm not entirely sure where I stand on Sabin V. Mash, so don't ask, however Terra is WAY better of a name than Tina)
- Do not change the battle/weapon/magic system... do not... I swear if you decide to give everyone "Their weapon" I'm going to explode

And last and probably most important

DO NOT F*CK WITH KEFKA

If anyone on the fictitious dev team reads this and even comes close to asking "What do you mean?" then cancel the project immediately.

... and I'm done.

I will say I pretty much agree with this, However, if they could add more to it, so that its longer and even more interesting, it would be awsome. One thing that I felt while playing the game, as it has a massive cast, is that you were only getting a small snippet of thier character, and it would have been great to see more of the story they have to tell. Heck, if you could have some way to look into the past to see kefka's backstory (It is out there, just not really mentioned in the game, and he had quite the backstory). I think they probably wanted to do more with the characters, but lacked the space to do it. If they were to remake the game, it should be at least FF10 quality in terms of graphics so they can do it right an give it justice.

Heck, if they were to do something crisis core style, its hard to even pinpoint whose past would make the most exiting one to make a game about- Kefka (before he went insane), Celes, Lock, Terra, Strago, and even Shadow (I think shadow's could potentially be the most interesting one here, considering they can do more with it, as all you get are 4 brief snippets of his past, and Im not sure how 'recent' those snippets are either), could have some nice stories to tell.

Six does not need a remake because there is nothing wrong with it. The gameplay and story is great, and sprites age beautifully.

That said, no game needs a remake. What we "need" is our developers to spend time on new projects.
