What am I looking at here? Because this looks nothing like Robin Hood.

What is it with this trend in Hollywood by taking classical stories and charcaters turning them into....this? I mean hell Ridley Scott's Robin Hood was more faithful than this.

It happened with King Arthur, it happened with Shakespeare's stories, it even happened with Exodus.

This gaudy re-imagining of classic stories just makes me cringe.

And yes I am proudly judging the book by its cover, because this trailer showed all I need to know.

I like it. Is Robin Hood based on an actual person, an urban legend, a Twilight novel? I have no idea, I never gave a shit about Robin Hood anyway, but I liked this trailer, in a "it looks like a video game movie" way, like it's a little Ass Creedy, no? If anything, what's bothering me is the unconvincing cgi, specially buildings and shit. I noticed this in other movies before and it's very distracting to me. Maid Marion looks pretty hot, though.

Why is this a Robin Hood movie?

I mean, by its lonesome I could get behind it, but as a RH flick? Eh...no.

'Lets make a movie based on that Arrow show!'
'Uh...I dont think we have the rights, isnt he a DC character?'

'Oh...well, what about a movie based on that THIEF game, that would be neat'

'Why not both?'

Yeah! I mean, is Robin even a fox anymore? Jamie Foxx? No, he is just named that!

...What do you mean Robin Hood wasn't actually a furry?

Looks like alternate dimension Hood. Apart from their over-enthusiasm with slo-mo Snyder flips, am not dissuaded from giving it a go at least.

Didn't we just have one of those?

Or is Robin Hood, just like Sherlock Holmes, King Arthur, the Jungle Book, Beauty and the Beast, Alice in Wonderland and Frankenstein, one of those properties we have to have someone try to modernize once every three years or so by turning them into a bad action movie? I mean, not that I can blame them, everyone tends to forget these movies exist about a month later, but that doesn't make theirs less redundant.

On that note, why those properties, specifically? I mean, when's the last time someone's made a dark, gritty action movie about Huckleberry Finn?

It looks like King Arthur: Legend of the Sword.

Which is funny because one of the writers for this film wrote for King Arthur: Legend of the Sword.

Eh, it's no Prince of Thieves (which was a great film). Probably still see it on DVD or summat.

Do NOT praise that piece of shit.

Considering what it was originally meant to be, and what Scott massacred it into, that garbage never deserved to wield the name any more than this new film does.

That's heavily debated by historians. The legends have changed so much over time and they've been around so long with little consistency to it all that we have no idea if he was just a myth, if he was real, or if there was a man who it was attributed to who existed but wasn't at all like the legends. For all we know there was a bandit who targeted only the king's men because they where sure to have coin, or a situation like in that one episode of firefly where a bank heist gone wrong was misinterpreted by poor people who had the money dumped on them.

The simple answer is we don't know, and unless we create a way to look back in time we never will.

I think I'd rather go watch the Kevin Costner Robin Hood movie than this thing. Aside from the name, this doesn't even look like Robin Hood.

And Prince of Thieves was no Adventures of Robin Hood.

I saw the trailer for this. One the one hand, uh, yeah its certainly looking more like Assassin's Creed. On the other hand, it is at least going in with a sense of fun that Ridley Scott's dour entry had declared outlawed.

Mind, whoever is instructing Taron with his bow handling in this, really needs to do better because its not great :p

All fantasy and medieval shows have started to look alike to me imo. It started with GoT, and after that all I could see in the series and movies coming after it was "oh this is X movie, game of thrones style..."

And I personally hate it. Why do they insist on "modernizing" (read: butchering) classic stories that were great already? The only reason I can think of is that they've run out of ideas and decided to make movies/series loosely based on classic stories instead.

Oh, that's a pretty cool Assassin's Creed trailer!

Seriously, from the over-the-top Robin Hoods, my favorites are the Mel Brooks parody and the anime series (the one where Marian once gained superpowers because of her hatred).
