There was also this strange wave of near-future sci-fi crime mysteries with social commentary (yeah, a very specific kind of wave): Gattaca, Minority Report, I, Robot, Equilibrium, Paycheck, Repo Men, Surrogates.
Most of them just take modern society and insert a new technology that drastically changes things. I'd say that Gattaca is easily the best one of the lot.
Don't forget Ghost in the Shell, not a movie, but still one of the most influential sci-fi masterpieces out there.
And if you have low standards, there's loads of cheap and cheesy sci-fi movies around. Sure, they might not explore the human condition, but they're good for a laugh. Johnny Mnemonic comes to mind.
Also, Sunshine and Moon were mentioned before, and I recommend them to everyone. You really can't go wrong with those (except for Sunshine's third act, that shit's messed up).
