At least for PC, the netcode is awesome. You dont get shot around corners. Unless you are killed by road hogs hook you deserved to die. Ive havent had a gaming experince this pleasant since me and my friends would do 16 player lan for Halo 1 PC.

I stopped playing COD at MW3 because I was tired of learning how to compensate for lag
Can't say the netcode for Overwatch is awesome, it's about the same as CSGO and I can't call that awesome, not for a competitive shooter anyways.

But atleast it's not as bad as R6Siege where you constantly die behind corners and suffers from peekers advantage. It's ridiculous that they try so hard to brand it as a esport.

Like everyone else, I find it to be very well put together for the most part. It does have a constant battle with balancing though. Either people complain a character isn't powerful enough and it gets a buff, so once people start using the character more they learn that the character was fine to start with and is now OP (Widowmaker, D.VA, Ana, Soldier) or they complain the character is OP to begin with and Blizzard is in a constant nerfing frenzy to try and appeal to everyone but only pissing of players of that character by making them almost useless (Roadhog is in a bit of a pickle right now with that)

Solo queing I feel like used to be quite viable in the early months of Overwatch, but it seems like either everyone's friends started picking up the game more or randoms online are actually playing regularly with each other and forming complete groups, which can be quite tough to beat. Now pure skill will only get you so far, as coordination is king in this game.

It's also frequently updated with new content right now, which I forsee happening for quite awhile. As long as loot boxes are still a viable way of raking in extra cash I suppose.

As someone who ignores multiplayer completely I was first drawn in by the design of the characters and the environments. I tried the beta to be sure and have to admit that there's no game I've played more in 2016.

What comes off at little content at first is in fact a very elaborate puzzle to figure out which team combination is the best. I enjoy the game immensely, even though I play solo 90% of the time.

Why write a forum post when you can answer...

...in song!

OT: Because it's well balanced, colourful, polished, varied, fast paced, fun, has a large community supporting it... apparently (I haven't played it myself, I enjoy the porn though).

Also, Widowmaker is best waifu. No ifs and no buts. Plenty of butts though.

Its Plants vs Zombies Garden Warfare with less content and first person, really. And maybe slightly less of a kid-friendly dynamic.

(PvZ : GW itself was just TF2 redone, so)

I traded a copy of the former for it (and some other game I forget) to someone who bought it for their kid not realizing that the story videos and stuff they pimped out on Youtube were prettymuch entirely non-representative of the game and there was no offline or whatever. Not that I was a huge fan of the PvZ:GW either, but most of my dabbling in Overwatch (which hasn't seen my PS4 in months) was messy, whether with friends or without.

Ranked mode (once they added it) has the usual problem of competing with the proverbial no-lifers. Unranked mode is just a mess of horrible matchmaking, people picking all the same half-broken hero (whichever one it currently is), random trolls, disconnects, etc. Throw in only having 2 game modes (unless you use custom match to make a deathmatch one.) on top of that. Then the whole free-to-play microtransaction pseudo-gambling loot system (Yeah, its only cosmetic, but its an awful model, as anti-consumer as forcing console users to buy a bundle full of PC-only extras, and trying to trick PC users into buying that same overpriced bundle as a default option which they also did)

I bought it on PS4 because a friend wanted me to play it with him and I think we have clocked up a whopping 6 hours playtime since launch (we are rarely on at the same time tbf).

The game is fun if you get a good team but terrible if you do not OR rather I should say if the teams are balanced in skill. I have not played in a long time so only used the default heroes and honestly what there is to play is fun but there is not that much of it so I guess what you will get will depend on how much you like that core gameplay experience.

The characters are largely well realised able to convey personality with very little much like fighting game characters. However it could have and should have had so much more in game imo instead of making you go out of the game to see movies and bios etc of those characters. The lore is also disconnected massively with the action so much so that it makes SF look cohesive. However this does not affect the core gameplay and how much it affects your own personal enjoyment of the package is down to you.

Overall I liked what was there but honestly I thought and still think it was a little expensive especially for console 30 quid for PC is still a bit pricy imo but 40 is ridiclous. If it was 20 it would be fantastic.

I would say if you have friends who you can play with regularly on it then you will likely find it great fun (who doesnt like playing with friends tho?) if you are on your lonesome dont bother get another shooter.

That's actually a really good question. I play it, I enjoy it, even though I feel like the game is a shining example of how polish and good art and character design can carry a game that is otherwise badly flawed.

Yeah, I said it. While the art and character design is amazing, the game itself is plagued with issues, with the most obvious one being that Blizzard has no idea how to balance their game, and has no idea how to introduce new heroes into an established environment. Buffs and nerfs are mostly knee-jerk reactions that don't have any finesse to them at all; their solution to every balance problem is to beat it with the nerfbat until it's a problem for the complete opposite reason. See: launch Ana vs. current Ana for a great example.

Which brings me to my next problem: Blizzard doesn't seem to think about their hero concepts. Ana is a neat example: a healer that heals her allies by shooting them with a sniper rifle! Sounds cool, doesn't it? That was the entire thought process behind her design, without stopping to think about how difficult it would be to balance a hero like that. You have to compensate for having to aim your heals somehow, after all, and if you compensate too much, Ana just becomes the driving force behind the game's current tank-heavy metagame. The same thing seems to be happening to the next hero released, Sombra, though Blizzard does seem like they're trying to avoid what they did with Ana, and buffing her much more slowly and carefully. I'm not sure how successful they're going to be, though.

And that's not even getting into how the developers interact with the community. Commenting on random, inconsequential threads and then clamming up when something serious pops up is not the way to go about community relations. It's as if their community managers are unpaid interns, with PR stepping in only when someone says something stupid.

Still, I play the game, and I enjoy it, mostly because I can see a well of potential in this game, and I'm praying to the gods of gaming that Blizzard somehow manages to realize that potential.

I like it, although I suck as anyone besides Mercy and Symmetra (ie, characters who don't need to aim).

I wish it had more AI modes, where people can battle the game itself. The current AI mode has a laughably steep difficulty curve between Medium and Hard.

For example, the Halloween event was great: I'd like to see more of that sort of thing (a Left 4 Dead or Vermintide survival mode or actual missions). Unless something like that becomes a permanent fixture, I doubt that I'll be playing this game anymore in a month or two.

EDIT: I am getting annoyed at how every single match always has someone playing Junkrat, Soldier 76 and Hanzo. Like, every game. They also always seem to get Play of the Game too.

The character design is visually colorful and interesting (making it look like a G.I. Joe cartoon) while, at the same time, the characters are varied enough gameplaywise to accommodate a very large number of play styles: you have your basic CoD style character (Soldier 76), your Unreal style jetpack using character (Pharah), your damage dealer (McCree), your 90s-comic fan (Reaper), your you-shall-not-pass defense point (Bastion), your walking tank (Reinhart), your offensive tank (Roadhog), your healing character (Mercy), your sniper (Widowmaker), your stealth character (Sombra) and everything in between. Even when I am playing as someone that is not my main, I am having a good time exploring characters that play differently than I am used to.

Also, the combat is pretty fast and fluid (not DOOM fast, but still).

Besides, the game is tailor-made to make you feel like you did great. The play of the game, the medals, the cards and the votes, it all makes it so that people can only get positive reinforcement (if we exclude the voice chat, of course). It is telling that there is no leaderboard, no public display of KDR, nor there is an option to see who got a medal, even on your team... There is even an option in the main menu to see highlights made specifically for you, even if you didn't do anything special in the match.

I don't know. But if I had to guess, it would be to specifically make me, and only me mad.
Only kidding, was already that way when they found me, apparently.
Seriously though, it manages to make an originally very repetitive style of game as varied and as colourful (possibly charming it would seem, though I haven't played long enough to notice) as possible for the gamer. Not presently for me, but I can see why it's popular. That and marketing up the nethers. I guess the social side is important too, if you don't like being social online or lack the means, it won't be as appealing. At least with battlefield and soulsborne titles, you can be working together without needing to utilise language noises. Maybe that is the difference that gates my pathway to its' alleged fun state.

On the same page what made Battlebprn so badly that Pritchard made a not so obvious tweet that he asked someone to draw porn of his characters?

Satisfying weapons and abilities, interesting characters and personalities, fun strategies, high-quality art design, nice looking maps and environments, flashy visuals, exquisite levels of polish, and also (unlike a lot of other multiplayer shooters out there) the game is quite forgiving to people who don't have pixel-perfect aim, where there are still plenty roles you can fill and heroes you can play if your aim and tracking isn't the best.

Oh, and also, because of the memes;

CSGO if you play on unofficial servers like on ESEA or faceit, CSGO normally has 64tick servers and Overwatch about the same (now atleast) while ESEA/faceit servers are 128tick. I'm glad they improved the netcode for Overwatch though, it wasn't always this good.

Competitive games should have better netcodes than they have today.

None of Battleborn's character's are even attractive! Maybe that one Sabre-lookin'ass lady. Everything makes sense now. Even Hi-Rez knows to put all kinds of hot women in their game.

I like it because it gives me team-based shooter combat with a lot of playstyle variety and makes the abilities easy to see and understand (at least if you're not a moron).

Guy puts up a giant blue shield in front of you? Clearly, I should get behind it and use it as cover.

Russian chick shoots a black hole that groups the enemy together? Clearly I shoot into that mass.

Enemy cowboy is glowing and ominously shouts the time? Dive for cover.

I'm Mercy and I see an ally pop a damage dealing ultimate? Clearly I should be either healing them or boosting their damage output.

Sadly, a lot of players are idiots and don't get what they need to be doing. :s Still, I find it's a fast, fluid, easy to understand game, and I enjoy it a lot.
