Hey, I'm thinking of getting Red Fation: Guerilla, and I wanted to know what the pros and cons with the game are.

Also, I would like to have some questions answered if you don't mind:

1. I've played the demo, and the gun you have has way too little ammo, and does way to little damage. Do you get better weapons along the way, or do you not even have to use them at all later?

2. Are there any really tall buildings to smash? :)

1. You have a hammer. A HAMMER that one-hits people. It's awesome! And even more fun in multiplayer with stealth.

2. I guess there are some tall buildings. There are some kind of antennas you can knock over. Or chimneys. It's all good fun : D

Pros: You beat the shit out of buildings with a hammer
Cons: I didnt like the open world design and would have preferred a linear game with a few epic set pieces thrown in.

Edit: Just realised I didnt even answer your questions. Hopefully I gave a little more insight into the game though.

If you go in trying to play it like a shooter, you'll probably lose. It has the "Guerrilla" subtitle for a reason. You need to use hit-and-run tactics to win at the game. Thus, you usually don't need that much machine gun ammo. You need more explosives than gun ammo. The game is WAY more about blowing stuff up than killing dudes on foot (except for the multiplayer, of course).

I played it for a couple of days before returning it.

Although the building destruction is kinda fun at first, the missions get very repetitive. There's no sense of a dynamic revolution going on - Earth soldiers just sit around waiting to be attacked and watch as you capture sectors one by one.

Yahtzee wasn't kidding when he compared it to Saint's Row 2. Except RF:G doesn't have the mission variety, story, humor, or attention to detail that SR2 did. And the combat feels awkward and flat to me.

It's not a bad game by any means, but I felt like they could have spent more time livening up the world and gameplay a bit.

Oh, and:

1. AFAIK the only ammo capacity you can upgrade is the little demo packs you can toss. Using EDF weapons and scavenging ammo off dead enemies is important, and this may have been intentional.

2. I don't remember seeing any large buildings, but that might have just been the sectors I was in. The biggest I remember seeing were prefab quonset hut type stuff, maybe 2-3 stories tall.

Con: It can easily get boring, and the story sucks

Pro: Best. Online. Ever.

Pros: Blowing stuff up. Never gets dull. NEVER.

Cons: Everything else is a bit bland, aside from the online.

There are a few large buildings in the more "rich" districts. But large I mean four-story buildings. A few large smoke-stacks in some areas which are fun to bring down. Just yell "timber!" and not let it fall on you.

Pros:
Open world
Demolition is FUN!

Cons:
Game seems to encourage Guerrilla tactics while at the same time giving no mechanics to actually support it.
Seriously, anytime you attack anything you get surrounded by guards, and while other guerrillas can help, you can't control when. Also there seems to be no stealth support and no silenced weapons. There is a day/night cycle, but there is no way to speed time at all, and it's not even clear if you're less visible at night.

Basically, I enjoyed the game for a while, but eventually got tired of it because it felt poorly designed.

It's basically Saint's Row 2 with all the uniqueness stripped from it. On the other hand, you beat the shit out of everything with a hammer.

"Guerrilla" in the name is a bit false, there is no sneaking possible. And I do a lot of sneaking in game's.

In favour of it is the fact that you can destroy the building's and at the end of the game, all building's are restored.
